It was originally a Maniax-style rerelease that fix everything wrong, then they just make new game out of it for some reason

It didn't follow same continuity as SMT 1 and 2. MC didn't have COMP. It was 3d instead of first person dungeon crawler. No law-neutral-chaos aspect.

IV is much more mainline SMT game than Nocturne ever was.

That's natural change in people's preferences in gameplay. Fuck you hard rng deaths just don't sell these days so well.
IV has more than plenty of series stables to be a part of the series gameplay wise and it's theme and narrative are much more SMT than Nocture's.

If you mean people prefer easier games you might be right. It still makes it a shitty experience for series fans. Fucking Persona 5 exploration is harder than SMTIV's dungeons and that's for an even more casual audience.

Also IV's Law/Chaos/Neutral stuff is literally as cliche and boring as you can get. Nothing interesting was done with them in IV compared to the other games.

I have never played SMT IV but I've read a bit about it and seen some videos and I'm extremely confused about something: After reading the plot summary in wikipedia, I saw that the final boss in SMT IV was either Merkabe (or whatever), Lucifer, or both, and the final boss in apocalypse is some hindu deity or something like that.

I thought that the final boss in IV was the yellow fellow, and neither plot summary even mentions him or says that he is a large part of the plot. What gives? did I miss something?

Yellow man is implied to be working behind the scenes in base IV.

In Apocalypse the main villain for most of the game is toot man of ailments and debuffs, who fuse with IV's protag into a boss. Then depends on the route Yellow Man got asspulled in because Stephen is bored, or Dagda drag you up yeah to replace him

each game being set in an alternate universe is pretty much the norm since 3 and 4 did it, guess we just had a small sample size before.
Giving a different vibe comes with the time, I and II were snes games and there are many game series that just try something different in each installment.

Nocturne dungeons aren't all that great either though, the only fun ones was the third kalpa when you play tag with dante from DmC, moonphase thingy inside the obelisk, the red amala temple with the shadows and the diet building because of the optical illusions other than that the dungeons weren't all that fun.

In SMT4, Law, Neutral and Chaos endings are all part of YHVH's plan. The only way to escape it is the White ending.

In Apocalypse YHVH has an attack called Planned Chaos.
