Asking which SMT is the best is the same as asking which Final Fantasy is the best. You'll never get the same answer. If you're asking which one would be the best to start with, IV streamlined the game a bit and is probably the best entry-point for the series. If you want to take it one step further, Persona is a good way to be introduced to the SMT formula since it's easy as shit. 3, 4 and 5 are all excellent.
