Is this series worth getting into?
I got pretty intimidated when I heard how long it is.
>>383887606
I go through it with cheats on unless bossfights
it so fucking tedious.
>>383887606
They're only really long if you're obsessive about the side content. If you ignore all of it (and there's a good argument why you should) they're traditional JRPG length.
People who like it like it because of how long it is, because the games have a pretty long story to tell along with a huge amount of time spent fleshing out the large cast and lots and lots of NPC dialogue to build up the world. I think the TitS trilogy has one of the best stories told in video games, but it does also set up a lot of plot points for the sequel series.
That said, the gameplay is pretty shit, combat is braindead and tedious while sidequests involve a lot of going back and forth, and it has some of the worst fishing I've ever encountered. Without using CheatEngine's speedup function I'd never have had the patience for them.
If you can deal with the crappy gameplay for the sake of the story then I very highly recommend it.
>>383887934
>and it has some of the worst fishing I've ever encountered.
How they made it even worse in CS I can't even fathom, it was almost nice in crossbell.
>>383888143
>they made it even worse in CS
You must be fucking joking, the fishing door in 3rd was the worst part of the entire series.
>>383888263
1 and 2 are pretty great, 3 is filler-ish.
>>383888371
Didn't mean to quote.
>tfw kitty suit Richard
>>383888668
>Speed: A
Nah.
>>383887934
>Without using CheatEngine's speedup function I'd never have had the patience for them.
Please elaborate.
>>383888904
It's pretty simple to use anon, you just get CheatEngine, run it and select the game process, then turn on the speedhack option and set the game speed in the bar it has for that. It's the simplest part of the program and one of the most useful ones.
That said, apparently the new CE versions are bundled with shitware, but the site has a non-shitware installer as well that's a bit lower on the download page, so make sure to get that.
I'm on the 2nd game now, and I really hated some of the casts, it was really anime troupey at points. But it is one of the most comfy games I've played.

I never played Tits but the music is fantastic.
>>383889167
Like who? I found TitS to be refreshingly different from the usual JRPG casts. I guess you probably mean Agate and Kloe?
>>383889071
I have older CE installed, 6.3 that I used to modify values like HP and shit in games with real time memory editing.
Didn't even realize it has a speedhack option and now I feel dumb I never noticed it.
Thanks anon.
>>383889213
It's Falcom, of course it is.

>I found TitS to be refreshingly different from the usual JRPG casts
Have you ever played a JRPG before? Every single character fits snugly within one archetype or another.
>>383889412
Most fiction across all mediums and genres uses the same archetypes, what sets them apart is the depth and development the characters have.
>>383889505
Trails is cliche in that regard too.
>>383889560
It really isn't.
>>383889581
Yes it is. No one gets anything beyond the bog standard "character development" you'd find in any JRPG.
Its a meme franchise with a very vocal fanbase. It isnt worth it. The only games in the series that are good arent even translated
>when a game forces you to do this
>>383887606
I can't be bothered playing the 2nd game, its too long for its own good with shitty gameplay.
Large part of the appeal is how grounded it is. It's not teenagers fighting god, it's just about some police work across the country. Second game escalates a bit, but still only into the "national crisis" territory.
It does have silly anime powerlevels though.
First two were fantastic but the third one was quite meh. Finished them all and enjoyed the first two a lot. Third wasnt that bad, but wasnt that fun to play either. Felt bit weak and I didnt care about main 2 characters at all
>>383889301
I couldn't stand Joshua, I hated him so much. I found Agate boring, same with Zane, Khloe and Tira.
Schareschmsrf and Oliver was OK. Estelle was good tho.
>>383889858
>It's not teenagers fighting god
This is literally what happens at the end of SC.
>>383889927
If you think that's actually what happened then you might be retarded.
>>383889927
I think that was when I checked out of the series. That final boss hit all the right cliches that it makes me sad
>>383889971
Yeah, this isn't some god-like being that can warp reality and destroy the world. Not a single person under the age of 20 in that party lineup either.
>>383890069
>Yeah, this isn't some god-like being that can warp reality and destroy the world.
Yeah, it isn't. Trails has Gods and God-like beings, and Weissman isn't one of them.
>Japanese media has young party members
Stop the fucking presses. What's actually remarkable is how many older characters you get in it.
Calvard when?
>>383890208
I'll let you in on something: the whole "jrpg villain is god" thing is just a joke. It isn't supposed to be taken literally, you autist.
>>383890376
>Say "this is literally what happens"
>Get called out
>Backpedal
Like clockwork.
>>383890408
You need to accept that you were wrong and that SC's final boss does end in the traditional JRPG affair of "teenagers fight god."
>>383890457
So is it meant to be taken literally or not? First you said it was literally what happened, then you said it wasn't meant to be literally when you were called out as being wrong, now you're saying that it is what happened again. Which is it?
>>383890575
Ask this retard >>383889858
>>383890741
Not an argument.
>>383890069
Would've been even better if you had brought Tita with you.
>>383887606
its not that fucking long
both the 1st and 2nd game took me about 40-50 hrs to beat MAX, and i even went for as much side content as i could
>>383888143
>>383888263
Unless you're a completionist the fishing barely matters. It gives some nice items but you'd get them by playing regularly anyway. I did like the demon fish and how Lloyd is fucking amazed that you were able to catch one though.
>>383891945
If you play the game without the speedhack it's long as fuck due to the slow ass art animations. That said, you can beat FC in 30 hours even with the side content and no speedhack
>>383892324
>Unless you're a completionist the fishing barely matters.
In SC that's fair, but for 3rd you need to complete all the other doors to unlock the last door, which is pretty important.
>That said, you can beat FC in 30 hours even with the side content and no speedhack
Dude, what? I used a speedhack with FC and I still ended up with a time of 49 hours.
>>383892324
idk man, i just beat the games in around 40-50 hrs when they came out
>>383892454
You only need to beat Lloyd in the fishing door. After that you can fuck off to something else. Same with the Arena and Campanella's game show.
Anyway I know you can beat FC in 30 hours while doing all the quests because I did it but back then I didn't bother compulsively talking to the NPCs. All that travel time stacks up fast
>>383892653
>You only need to beat Lloyd in the fishing door. After that you can fuck off to something else. Same with the Arena and Campanella's game show.
>>383887775
>and there's a good argument why you should
Ignoring the side content literally removes 50% of the lore, world building, and even character development.
What makes these games great is how much interesting shit is locked behind side content that gives more context to the main story and characters.
>>383892454
>I used a speedhack with FC and I still ended up with a time of 49 hours.
On the save or Steam time?
>>383892742
No it doesn't. Most of the side content is pointless fluff like "Find my cat!" or "Rescue the miners!"
>>383892778
Steam time, I guess the game time would be down to around 42 hours. I'd need to reinstall to check though.
>>383892892
I bet you didn't even read Carnelia or the Doll Knight.
>>383892892
>Most of the side content is pointless fluff like "Find my cat!" or "Rescue the miners!"
Which reveal small things about the characters and explain small bits about the lore and world you wouldn't know otherwise.
>>383890069
Literally 3 of the 4 characters in your picture were 16 in SC
>>383892967
Nope. If I felt like reading a short story I'd read a short story, not play a video game.
>>383892978
By small you mean inconsequential, and that's only if you're lucky. I know for a fact neither of the "find the missing cat" sidequests reveal anything.
>>383893128
>playing a game where the only appeal is the story
>doesn't read the stories
>>383893128
>Ignores the side content and doesn't read the novels
>Claims it's unimportant and pointless fluff
Maybe if you'd actually done it you'd know how much you missed.
>>383893070

>>383887606
Probably not worth it. I binge-played the series a few months ago (though I stopped in the middle of Sen because it was so atrociously boring, though I might try to finish them before the third game is out) and the Sora trilogy is just decent, while Zero and Ao are good but still not worth trudging through Sora (especially the 3rd, jesus christ) to get to. And you NEED to play them all in order or you're going to be out of the loop frequently during the story. Overall I kind of regret getting into the series, so think carefully before you waste any time with them.
>>383893238
I'm retarded
>>383893218
Why do you idiots always resort to the "GUESS YOU DIDN'T PLAY THE GAME HUH" bullshit?
>>383893218
Not that guy but Doll Knight isn't even important because it's a Gagharv reference. Carnelia only gains plot relevance in CS when you regularly get to interact with Toby and Micht. Ein in 3rd was a nice nod but not that important to the plot of the game.
>>383893345
You literally just said you didn't read the novels.
>>383893403
It's a good thing I haven't said anything about them other than "I haven't read them." Please try to follow along.
>>383893345
I didn't say you didn't play the game, I said you didn't do the side content, which you just said yourself you didn't do.
>>383892454
>49 hours
How?
>>383893564
Stop being a disingenuous fuck.
>>383893717
There's nothing remotely disingenuous about me pointing out the flaw in your argument.
Balance gets a little iffy later on.
>this crazy motherfucker gets to attack 5-6 times in a row
>>383893875
You haven't said anything about my argument.
>>383893218
Ive played them all and most of the shit npcs say is unimportant and uninteresting. He's not wrong in assuming other side content is just as boring.
Don't bother with Coldsteel series because LITERALLY the best character that makes the game interesting dies like a bitch.
