Recently played a few levels of this game again and forgot how good and scary it actually was. Did anyone else play this?
>>
Game is great. However, it was also the game that taught me not to move an Xbox with the disk still in.

Scratched disk still worked, but there was a whole level that wouldn't load map textures. Had to blindly run through a level where walls and objects were invisible. After that it worked fine.

I should get another copy of it.
>>
I got it randomly at GameStop because it was cheap, and I was very impressed with how good it was.
>>
>>383879914
I actually replayed it just a year or so ago.
Yeah, it's a good game and tends to be listed amongst the best horror titles out there.

Always wanted to play it. Should have done so on launch.
>>
>>383880045
It's on PC and Steam. And dirt cheap nowadays.
>>
>>383879914

It's easily one of the best horror games, among Doom 3, Penumbra, Amnesia, Outlast, F.E.A.R, etc.

Just the fact that ammo is scarce and that you end up using some melee weapons against big guys, makes it quite stressful.

But the atmosphere is where the real deal is...

If you like the movie se7en, you'll like this game. And I think it held up pretty well to this day, so grab it if you can... and avoid the sequel.
>>
Great game. Sequel ws allright.
>>
>>383880470
I played the sequel years ago, and I remember I didn't play much at all. What was so shitty about it?

Aw yeah, combat in this game it amazing, but I didn't find it scary at all. God tier atmosphere nonetheless. It's a shame the story went full retard in the sequel and part three NEVER EVER.
>>
>>383880270
How's the game on pc. Performance wise?
>>
I liked this since the demo came out on xbox. I was amazed by the sound when the first enemy shouts at you from the darkness.
>>
>>383879914
Yes, it's one of the few games that made me actually feel tense and worried and very aware of my surroundings.
>>
>>383880686
Pretty high end PC with W 8.1, run smoothly without any problems.

It managed to make combat feel extrememly personal and I adore that, it adds to the horror atmosphere.
I remember being impressed by the cook boss-fight, with cans and buckets falling off racks left and right, way before a lot of 3A games did.

Any games in the same vein as Condemned? Is Get Even any good? I didn't follow its launch.
>>
>>383880831
I read some reviews about Get Even, and it was basically a solid "meh" to "pretty good," so it's a bit polarizing. But I haven't played it, though.
>>
Played this with my high school sweetheart. That was almost 10 years ago and I'm married now, but I still miss her. The game is fun though. Towards the end where it got super paranormal, I felt like it jumped the shark though. As far as horror goes, the setting was great and it really was a legitimately spooky game at times. The bear part was great.
>>
>>383880960
I believe the bear part was actually in the second game, and it was great
>>
>>383881024
Shit, confusing the first game with the second. Played the second one first is why. I preferred the second over the first, when it comes to gameplay.
>>
>>383879914
Condemned was, by far, the best form of melee combat in video games. Shit like For Honor, Mount and Blade and what not tried to make melee fun and entertaining but, no, it's right here.

Only downside is the reliance on the Taser - they built encounters specifically to use the taser, so you will always take one guy out of the equation with it... But if you just didn't have the taser you could just throw two guys at you instead of 3.
>>
>>383880960
>>383881024
I remember that after the bear chase there was an explosion and you end up flying through the window and then somebody starts dragging you across the snow, but I could never figure out who that was. My memory might be playing tricks on me though.
>>
>>383881116
That's actually a pretty uncommon opinion, I think. What makes you say that?
>>
If you like condemned, I would recommend get even, it's fairly new, but it's got a lot of similar vibes in the story. The gameplay is nowhere near as tense and chaotic as condemned, there's a lot of gunplay and it's not ashamed to throw ammo at you by the boatload, but it's so god damned worth it for that story.
>>
>>383880564
It's not bad gameplay-wise, and is actually one of the better melee/FPS hybrids out there, but the story shits itself once you hit the junk kingdom by way of a garbage ship in the last chunk, and you start screaming to kill people because you're a living evil-destroying flute

The bear chase was one of my biggest holy fuck moments on the OG 360
>>
>>383881257
stopped playing right there, after the ship
>>
>>383881209
I think I just liked the combat more in the second one. But I'm also going on 10 year old memories, so I could be wrong on my own opinions.
>>
>>383881151
After doing a little bit of reading, apparently it's the bear that drags you off, only to run away and never be seen again
>>
>>383881257
>story shits itself once you hit the junk kingdom by way of a garbage ship in the last chunk, and you start screaming to kill people because you're a living evil-destroying flute

This. The first game was fine, second started with too much paranormal illuminati bullshit but was still solid, but the last few levels felt like a shitty fanfiction shoved into the main game.
>>
>>383879914
The slow walk speed really took away all the horror because it made exploration feel like a chore
>>
>>383881373
Wasn't the bear torn to pieces when the gas canister exploded?
>>
>>383881257
I never played that far in the second one, but I can remember seeing gameplay of it and getting scared off from the game for a while.

One of my OG holy fuck moments was playing Bart's Department Store for the the first time, holy shit as a little 12 year old I nearly shit myself.
>>
>>383881456
I guess not, according to the wiki it ran away, so it's survival is open to interpretation. Seems like a bit of a shoe-in to me personally
>>
>>383880045
The same thing happened to me!
After the you begin the second mission on my disc the whole office building would become black and non textured. I somehow got through that glitchy mess but the thid level would never load.
>>
>>383881438
I think it added to it a bit more, making it that much more scary as you kind of ease your way in, but it could be seen as cheap too

>>the hotel was pretty good, the museum was pretty good the doll factory was alright the snow level was pretty good, then you go to that theater and i was ''cool a theather level'' but no it was just a room and a shitty boss fight then the ship and that toweer police flash back and the ship and i left the game

also: lets transform our protagonist into some edgelord emo when in the first game it was a normal dude
>>
>>383881784
Why did they do that? If I hadn't heard a character call him by name, I'd have 0 clue it was even related to Ethan

Condemned is a good game and so are the ones you listed but goddamn, kids today don't know what a good horror game is. None of those rank amongst the best.
>>
>>383880686
Its running on the FEAR engine, so it runs fine on just about anything made in the past 12 years.

Replayed it last year on a craptop with i3 @ 2.1Ghz, 6gb RAM and GT 540M 1GB, all High settings (minus SSAA) at 1366x768.
>>
>>383882828
Okay grandpa
>>
>>383882828
Then which are the best?
>>
>>383883018
Not him, but I'd list:
Silent hill 1-4
REmake & RE2-3
Fatal Frame 1-3
Afraid of Monsters: DC
Cry of Fear
Siren 1-2
Penumbra eps1-2

Resident Evil remake is great. It was ported to PC last year.
>>
No man just you
>>
I agree it's pretty damn tense, especially the orchard farmhouse area near the end.
>>
>>383879914
What do you guys think about DreadOut? Bought it on Steam sale for 1.5 Euro or something like that, but haven't installed it yet.
>>

Silly.
>>
>>383883830
But is it fun to play or is it nothing but stupid japanese humor mixed with jump scares?
>>
>>383883623
Make that three years ago.
And it was ported to just about every prev and current gen machine too.
>>
>>383883906
It's Indonesian horror actually. From what I played I didn't enjoy it very much. Kinda janky.
Third person explory game with spooks and a shit story.

beating hobos to death with overly braindead melee mechanics gets old pretty fast
i could forgive it if the game was actually at all scary but i'm afraid that isn't the case either
>>
>>383880686
I ran it perfectly ( until the part with the fire ) on a laptop with 1 gb ram, 2ghz single core cpu and integrated intel gpu.
>>
>>383882574
No idea what happens in the second one since I've never played it but if it's the same character maybe he just had a rough time? I mean,I guess he doesn't have time to cut his hair or change his clothes since he's constantly fighting hobos, mannequins and other crap
>>
>>383883198
Ignore the other guy. Never owned a PS2 but that's still is some top tier taste.
>>
>>383884546
He did have a REALLY rough time, but the complaints are mostly around the fact that with the changes in model and voice actor that it didn't really feel like a proper sequel and more like a different game

Fucking pathetic.
>>
>>383879914
It's the last good game Monolith made.
>>
>>383881784
>>383882013
The sequel should've been about Rosa trying to find Ethan and coming across crime scenes that have evidence which may suggest he did it. That at least would've kept you guessing if he were truly taken over by evil like the ending in the first one implied and still kept the style and tone of the original. God I hate Condemned 2 so much outside of that moment with the bear. Even the gameplay took a nosedive with the heavier focus on using guns something the first game was constantly advertised on not doing and adding combos made the combat feel a whole lot less visceral.
>>
>>383885902
The combat at times felt more like something out of a Fight Night game honestly
>>
>>383886020
I would've been fine with 2's combat in any other game however I loved the back and forth nature of the first one. It actually felt like I was in a 2x4 fight with some crazy homeless guy as opposed to just Not Breakdown.
>>
>>383886164
Yeah, after replaying it a bit recently, I noticed it actually takes a good amount of hits to kill someone with most melee weapons, which made it that much more intense in my opinion
