How do you resist the temptation to save scum when unfair shit happens in videogames?
Like what?
Most of the time you just need to git gud
It always depends on the game. If it's something like a long RPG or another leisurely game then I'll probably save scum with no regrets. But if it's something I'm playing specifically to challenge myself, like an Ironman run, then overcoming those setbacks are part of the game, and pretending they didn't happen would be defeating the point.

I don't. some games are fun to play like that. fucking hitman limiting your saves is a mistake. and it has nothing to do with getting better. some games just have a lot of moving parts and it's fun to pick them apart and play with them, without the need to start all the way at the beginning and slog through boring stuff.

I'd say it would entirely depend upon the game and the nature of what someone is saving scumming for.

>boss randomly crits either instantly killing your entire party or using the crit bonus to become unhittable then instantly kill your entire party

I use saves as they were implemented into game.
If the game allows you to save any time, why not use it?
