Going to hijack this thread to rage a bit. I am so fucking sick and tired of developers trying to emotionally manipulate people. Because they do it lazily. And they keep doing the same fucking thing over and over again. They keep playing to the concept of loss.

Was playing Mad Max. They have you save a woman and her child. Entire mission has you going out to save the child. Carry the child back. Very next mission woman is tortured and hanged and the child is crucified.

Devs keep doing this. They try to set up an emotional connection to then exploit it via the deaths of the characters to get a reaction. It's supposed to make players upset at the villain, supposedly. But it doesn't. It just pisses me off at the devs. Because it's the laziest fucking thing you can do. It's the laziest attempt at emotional manipulation you can do. It's fucking hilariously tropey. It is the Unity Asset Flip of script elements. It just makes me want to take up a tire iron and cave in the heads of the people that make use of it.

So I guess I'm saying the only tangible depression you can get from games is going in with expectations. Because devs these days are frauds.
