Nerd culture was already popular before BBT, unless suddenly Penny Arcade, nerdcore rap, G4 TV, Rooster Teeth and MST3K didn't exist before 2007.

All BBT did was take Freaks and Geeks, turn it into a shitty sitcom, and keep churning out seasons at the behest of Warner Bros. If they hadn't done it, there would have been plenty of other shows willing to step up.
