There's two turn based modes.

Old turn based or one where you can walk around and change the camera in battle. Also ai party.

Who /novoice/ in here? I'm glad I figured out DQ was one of those games better left off text only. The acting in VIII was already jarring as it was, luckily I turned voices off before even getting to the first dungeon.

I like Dragon Quest because... it's Dragon Quest. There's a whimsical charm to all of it that no other games has. Similar things came after it yes but nothing gives the same feel.

I love the world, the characters and the monsters. I loved the first time I opened a chest in a random hard ass dungeon do find out it was a mimic that wiped out my entire party. Collecting minimedals, playing at the casino, exploring the noin-linear world. Things like that. It's just great but it's not something you can come in and love it straight away imo.

Because it's good. Each game isn't the same, but each game also doesn't reinvent all of its systems entirely. Each game adds something to expand on the system and refines what was there. 2 added a party, 3 added jobs, 4 added multiple chapter story telling, 5 added monster taming, 6 refined the job system, 7 further refined the job system and was the first jump into 3d, 8 was fully 3d and to scale and added the skill point system. 9 combined the skill point system and jobs, 10 was basically 8+9's good parts on top of being an mmo.

I don't know if they've said whether 11 has jobs or not, but whatever they do with the character system it will be progression. Although maybe the crossplay between consoles and the game existing in both 8's true scale style and other games sd/2d style will be the defining feature this time.

I don't really understand why anyone bitches about dragon quest being dragon quest. Even if it's shit bait, it's one series out of hundreds of jrpg series in Japan. If you don't like it find something else.

I'm pretty sure Dragon Quest is the way it is at this point because it exists for Japs to unwind with something comfy after their hellish work culture spits them out at the end of the day.
