Remember when technological limitations inadevertently produced outstanding art design?
You mean turn based combat?
>>383831961
No, I mean art design regardless of gameplay type.
Yeah, I love those old 90s textures that lean more towards pixel art than anything else.
Quake, Silent Hill, MGS 1, they all had such a cool "gritty industrial" feel to it.
>>383831961
is it true that old games used turn based style combat not for style but because of hardware limitations? real time high quality graphics are GPU intensive.
>>383832316
I bet you also complain about indie pixel graphics
>>383832571
I don't think so. The turn based structure for RPGs comes from the tabletop inspiration of such games. Real time combat was always present in games since their inception.
>>383832741
What? I wasn't being sarcastic if that's what you think.
Obligatory
Yup
>>383831751
But that is literally a retextured FFVII shot.
>>383831751
That's the Devil Man game right? It's considered Kusoge.
I no joke want to see some modern games with PS1 or Saturn style models and environments. Something like Silent Hill or Virtua Fighter 2, or even the Saturn Shenmue demo.
>low resolution textures
>facial texture animations
>low poly models
But add the following:
>60fps
>fully rotational camera
>better controls
>better draw distances
The best of the old, with the best of the new.
>>383831751
No, and neither do you.

Speaking of which, i'm making a game and want to capture N64/PS1 aesthetics, so would anons be so kind to throw their best looking N64/PS1 games my way?
>>383833040
when are they going to remake Another World with a ginger tranny defeating an alien patriarchy?
>>383835448
Silent Hill, Virtual Fighter 2, Vagrant Story, Resident Evil 2 come to mind. PGXP test vids are a nice showcase of PS1 graphics.

Nice, thanks anon.
I'm basically trying to do what this anon wanted >>383834551
Now if only i could get into the minds of the developers of those games.
>>383831751
It's weirdly sharp compared to "where are my glasses" of modern games.
>>383834551
Take a look to Copper dreams. There was Back in 1995, but it doesn't seem good
>>383832248
which game? love these early-2000's top down rpg/rts gaems.
>>383836329
>Take a look to Copper dreams. There was Back in 1995, but it doesn't seem good
That looks HIDEOUS. Typical PS1 or Saturn games were way better looking, not even counting the best ones.
>>383836276
>>383835448
The average PS1 game cost 3-5 million to make. Modern tech will simplify the process, but they're still big complex games to make that will take a lot of skill and time to make.

age of decadence
great rpg done in torque
>>383836617
Eh, a lot of it boils down how interesting you can make the fluff around the gmae and how good are you at balancing/making it fun, because setting up the gameplay and producing assets for a moderately sized indie game is not that hard nowadays. You don't even need coding knowledge with UE4.
>>383834551
look up copper dreams

Rival Schools has my favorite PS1-esque style.
>>383836526
I know. He went too far with the meme. But it's hard to find games wit that style.
Wait, now I remember that kikestarter, Drift stage

Senpai, what geimu?

Name games with an HP bar and SP bar on the top left corner.
Is it just me, or do a lot of PS1 games have a very dark color scheme? For example, the game Die Hard Trilogy has it's main menu and high scores in a black void of nothing, and even the gameplay is surrounded by darkness.
