I don't think so. The turn based structure for RPGs comes from the tabletop inspiration of such games. Real time combat was always present in games since their inception.

I no joke want to see some modern games with PS1 or Saturn style models and environments. Something like Silent Hill or Virtua Fighter 2, or even the Saturn Shenmue demo.

Silent Hill, Virtual Fighter 2, Vagrant Story, Resident Evil 2 come to mind. PGXP test vids are a nice showcase of PS1 graphics.

The average PS1 game cost 3-5 million to make. Modern tech will simplify the process, but they're still big complex games to make that will take a lot of skill and time to make.

Eh, a lot of it boils down how interesting you can make the fluff around the gmae and how good are you at balancing/making it fun, because setting up the gameplay and producing assets for a moderately sized indie game is not that hard nowadays. You don't even need coding knowledge with UE4.

Is it just me, or do a lot of PS1 games have a very dark color scheme? For example, the game Die Hard Trilogy has it's main menu and high scores in a black void of nothing, and even the gameplay is surrounded by darkness.
