I started to play ffxiv in december and went in with a overly nice reddit attitude i chat, even used smiley faces. And i ended up with a guild of nice guys and girl that actually isnt cringey. So just do like me and find a game and fake it, the problem is you not the game.

It's overrated. Having friends can be fun, but after a few hours I always just end up wanting to be alone anyway.
