Generations didn't dumb anything down, it added dumb stuff on top of that. As much as it trivialized the base game, it's all still there underneath.

World is building Monster Hunter from the ground up with new mechanics and maps that favor a more casual-friendly play style that doesn't punish the player as heavily for their mistakes and sprinkles in tons of free traps and openings to make it feel "epic." Only time will tell if the entire game remains as inviting to new players as possible or if these quality of life changes are actually there to alleviate some more brutal monster encounters later on (World could definitely have more than two monsters active at a time and there aren't separate loading zones to retreat to)

No they aren't. Thinks like the Health indicator aren't optional. Damage numbers are optional but they're essentially replaced blood splatter so it's almost mandatory now. The glowing bugs are supposedly optional but the devs never commented on whether or not they can be turned off or not and they even said hunting takes WAY too long if they aren't used.
