>vive goes on sale during the summer sale for $750 + $50 steam gift instead of $800
>vive goes on sale for $700 on amazon for prime day
>the best you can hope to find a used vive for on ebay or craigslist is $500-600

>rift does its own summer sale and offers a bundle with motion controllers and sensors for roomscale for $400 instead of $700
>bundle goes on sale for $385 plus an xbox controller and a $100 gift amazon gift card on prime day, effectively making it $285
Honestly, how can Valve even compete at this point? What do they think they can accomplish when the most discounted price they've ever offered is on par with the full retail price of Oculus Rift?

I've wanted a Vive all this time because it just seemed like the better hardware, but they just weren't competitive enough to get my purchase.
>>
>>383782756
now you get to live with the conscious decision of buying inferior hardware just to save a couple bucks for an already niche concept
>>
>>383782756
Yeah but then you have to suffer through using a Riftbook. Also I'm pretty sure valve has nothing to do with HTC Vive development, they're just partnered with HTC to sell vives on steam
>>
>>383782756
>paying $700 for shovelware party games and motion sickness
>>
>>383782849
>a couple bucks
You mean ~$450 after selling the xbox controller, literally more than half of Vive's full retail price for a marginally different experience.

Vive already "Competed" by outselling oculus like 3 to 1.
>>
Buying oculus is like buying AMD.

Why? At least with PSVR you have RE7.
PC HAS NOTHING NOT A SINGLE GOOD GAME FOR VR.

Rift's "roomscale" is a complete hack and needs 3 base stations to be reliable and still doesn't have enough range.
There are absolutely zero compelling "sitting" VR experiences, either.
Rift is also trying to create a closed platform whereas Vive is trying to be an open as possible within reason.

That price was good, sure, but Rift just isn't as compelling of a product.
>>
>>383783271
I bought a Vive and the Fresnel are so shit I sent it back.

VR will only be worth it by 3rd gen.

2nd gen will be wireless.
3rd should fix resolution/screen door
>>
>>383783543
>have both
>tfw you see rift only plebs say they also have "roomscale"

It doesn't even fucking compare.

The wires.
The setup.
The tracking.

Its so much worse it hurts, I feel bad for them.

Will AC7 have PC VR?

>>383783817
AC7 VR is going to be a separate mini-campaign. It'll probably wind up being another Bad Company 2 + Battlefield 1943 type situation where the main game gets released on PC but the addon doesn't because the devs don't care.

>>383783623

How's it worse?

Im not going to pay for something where I have to stand to play. Are valve/facebook creating content where you sit down to play?

This is VR's 7th gen or something, you underage prat.

Here's a list of every game on steam that supports VR and doesn't require standing.
>>
>>383784313
There are plenty of sit to play games, probably RE7 and Star Trek Bridge Crew is all about the sitting.
>>

Oh please to call anything VR before the Vive/Rift is pure flattery.

Rift said recently that CV2 won't see the light of day for at least another 2 years. ""at least"". And we've seen their history with estimates.

Haven't bit the bullet yet, I was planning on sleeping on it. In the meantime, I'm looking at vidyacards. 1070 and 1080 prices blew up because of bitcoin miners.

Don't try and backpedal to save face at this point, punk. You used to be able to go into VR arcades and spend $5 for a few minutes of vr that was a hell of a lot more featured than a simple headset.
>>
>>383784662
Well, yeah. Making a VR-only game is limiting your audience to a few thousand people.
>>
>>383784791
Should be easier to make incremental adjustments now on already established R&D.
>>
>>383784176
The tracking is slightly jittery, it randomly drops out and your hands start to float away. It really takes you out of it, especially compared to the Vive which doesn't have these problems. Plus the area is limited to 8x8 feet while the Vive can do almost twice that.

Oh, and you need to buy a third sensor (the bundle in the OP only comes with 2), which is another $80. The tracking improves slightly with a 4th sensor for another $80, but the problems don't go away.
>>
>>383786079
I still manage to have some irritating problems with Vive tracking once in a blue moon.
Like calibration going out of wack for a moment and floor calibration goes off (likely due to one of the basestations getting moved).
Or tracking going nuts in a certain spot in the the room due to an IR reflecting surface somewhere or furniture occluding.
Affordable NLOS tracking will be a godsend, but vive's tracking is cheap and effective enough overall depending on how well it is setup.
Unfortunately I can't dedicate the entire room to it. Despite my best efforts to have good coverage at ceiling level I still loose tracking in a certain spot when blocking one of the base stations with my body while my monitor blocks the other in a small region.
Could relocate the base station for better coverage but I want it to cover my bed as well.
