I never finished ocarina of time because of the puzzle design he talked about. Sound design was pretty sweet for me though. Loved these clear watery sounds throughout the game.

Breath of the Wild is unironically the most disappointing game I've played this decade and playing it has been like watching my favorite franchise die before my very eyes. I mean what do they have in common other than BotW is completely open-ended? Even LoZ wasn't like entirely like that.

The biggest difference in my eyes that makes them stand apart (and why BotW is ultimately a horrible game) is that BotW confused Difficulty for Damage Output. In 1986 enemies were constantly coming at you. Every frame, boom- Enemies. They were always in your face, and the game (and later, franchise) made a point of making their defeat a necessity. In BotW there are no enemies to fight. You have suspend your thinking and actively seek out battles, and even then you're left with mediocre action combat and a framerate that puts Dragon's Dogma on the 360 to fuckin' shame.

So where are the similarities here? I mean even 1986 manages to have a singular line of memorable dialogue in the Old Man. 31 years later and BotW is what we get, a game praised because a game 3 decades prior had actual limitations and was helping revolutionize them, instead of the artificial ones Nintendo creates by being lazy.

No, traversing Zelda 1's overworld is FAR less tedious and it actually has good dungeons. BotW TRIES to be like Zelda 1 and it captures/updates the sense of wanderlust but that's all it captures. BotW is Zelda 1 minus the fun.

There's something about the style of Nintendo's new games that don't feel right to me. Yoshi, Kirby, Mario, Splatoon and even Zelda to an extent.

That's the thing, I actually enjoyed and I got got into it the same as I got into Zelda 1 when I was a kid. I wanted to explore all of Hyrule, I did dungeons last, I wanted to see everything the game had to offer, raid all enemy camps, see how I would hold against the guardians.

Nintendo's attempts to translate their cartoonish styles into HD have left their games feeling vaguely sterile. It's hard to put my finger on it too but it seems a bit off to me as well, like comparing the NSMB artstyle to the SMB3/World artstyles, or even 3D World compared to Sunshine/Galaxy. And the last time I was in love with any artistic direction Zelda took was Twilight Princess, and even that's pretty readily hit or miss. I do think Splatoon and Kid Icarus Uprising were bursts of that old, off-the-wall Nintendo creativity but I'm hard pressed to think of anything else from that timeframe that made me feel that way.

Pokemon Black and White are the best version ever made. This fucking series need reboots everytime, seeing old shit in my playthrough makes me want to vomit. Also pokemon going to the switch is perfect : long ass turn based combat should NEVER have shitty graphics since it's all you see while you're waiting for others to select theirs moves. Second screen was both ugly and pointless imo, Colosseum/XD/Battle revo UI/menuing through battles was neat as fuck and I'm glad we're returning to this.

Zelda games aren't that good. The best one is Link to the Past. Ocarina of Time is important but it's really not that great of a game isolated from the context of 1998.
