I would want a bunch of villains to be in the game as secret characters. As such, for story mode, I would want it to be where a bunch of the heros have been brainwashed by the hidden bad guys, and equipped with dangerous technology that turns them each into a boss fight. You start out having to deal with Bowser and Ganondorf using a machine to control and strengthen Mewtwo as a weapon you have to fight in different levels. Eventually, you break the machine, and play as Mewtwo getting revenge in a 2 on 1 handicap battle against Bowser and Ganondorf. After you beat them, Bowser Jr saves Bowser and flies off. Ganondorf reveals that he doesn't know who is brainwashing characters, but he does know where he got the technology and tells you. Then, you go through a bunch of generic looking laboratory and machinery levels, only to fight a secret character, Crash Bandicoot, having been brainwashed by Neo Cortex, covered in weapons made by Dr. Wily, and riding Dr. Eggmans vehicle. That's the last boss before the final boss, which is a handicap match of 3 on 1 where you fight against Cortex, Wily, and Eggman on a single team.

I think this concept for a story mode would be cool. Would feel very like old school games do. This of course is assuming the new game gets to keep Megaman, Sonic, and adds Crash.

Melee's mode to me felt stale and generic. Like it was a prospect forced into the game at the last second. You may say "cringy fanfic", but what everybody likes about Smash is all of these different character interacting with each other when you would normally never see them at all. I don't think there should be a story mode, per se, but a modular adventure mode, a la Melee.

Basically, each character has to complete 10 stages, and each series gets its own stage sets (IE, Dream Land, Big Blue, Metroid escape sequence, etc). The stages played through are determined by your character, ending with a fight against a boss, depending on your speed/performance, like Giga Bowser or Crazy Hand.

Really, the only feature I want is for there to be an unlock code feature, that way they can lock a lot of the roster until you unlock them like in Melee or Smash 64. I'm tired of there being so few unlockable characters just so the game can be used for tournaments.

It depends on the bad guys being used. All the team of villains really needs is a good leader. Plus, the villains usually have really OP armies, especially the ones in Xenoblade and Metroid.

As long as they don't all have to be playable, you could throw in Luxaar, Ridley, Mother Brain, Hades, and Zanza and call it a day. Them alone would be able to thwart the vast majority of the "heroes"
