The fact that Dark Souls is top 10 shows this list is garbage. You don't put popular games as the top 10 greatest because it hasn't had time yet to be fully dissected and appreciated. What were you doing; speedrunning the game? If you sit back and grind or even go out of your way to catch the Pokémon you want you would be in the 40's by the time you fought the E4. Even if you are in the 30's they're in the 40's. Most times you're 5-10 levels below them anyway. Even when you get to Kanto the difficulty scales well (except for Red).

The Johto mons sucked balls. Many are even much weaker due to shittier TM's and learned moves. Say what you want about the improvements. Nobody ever really argues that. As a more complete, better thought out region though the first games got G/S/C beat. The game is a mediocre RPG, the characters aren't nearly as good as people claim, and the plot is dumb. Its unbelievably bland for an RPG, and I'd even argue that Mother 2 was better. Mother 2 is a fucking boring ass slog, but at least it was a quirky boring ass slog. Mother 3 feels like they tried to make it a darker tone, but it just comes off as stupid. The combat is also stupid, a unique idea, but not all unique ideas are good.

The list definitely needs an update. Not only because of games that have come out since it was made, but also because the general majority tastes and opinions of /v/'s user-base has drastically changed over the past few years. Of course /v/ can't agree on anything anyway, but I think you could make the claim that the two largest types of posters that lurk here are either

1) people who like Nintendo and the Japanese influence on video games more broadly

2) people who hate Nintendo and disparage 'weebshit' whenever they get the chance.
