>try to play an N64 "10/10 classic masterpiece best in genre" game today without the nostalgia factor because I never played them before
>they're fucking terribly dated and don't hold up at all

Will this meme EVER end?
>>
Sunshine is still good though
>>
>>383691274
pathetic
>>
>>383691274
What parts of the game are dated?
>>
>>383691491
Only the N64 is susceptible to this phenomenon, NES, SNES, GameCube, games all hold up great.
>>
>>383691274
The N64 is overall badly dated and hasn't aged well. The games are still really great but if you didn't play them back in the day it will require a bit of an effort on your part to put yourself in that time frame and appreciate it for what it is.
>>
>>383691274
That's ninteniggers shilling for you. And Sunshine was never good, not even back in the day.
>>
>>383691274
The N64/PS1 generation was a mistake aside from MGS1.
>>
man, mario 64 is like the one thing my four year old cousins who're being raised on crappy phone and tablet games love out of all the old shit i've showed them. watched me play for hours, eventually got to playing it themselves. my niece, three years old, fucking loves it too, and her mom had the n64 set up in their room when they stayed over a while back so she could play it and donkey kong racing

it totally fucking holds up
>>
>>383691274
Its only issues are hardware related like the framerate. Mechanically it is still a very solid game. If you're not a shitposter, what did you find "terribly dated"?
>>
>>383691274
In what way is it dated? Outside of minor nitpicks like "can't collect two stars at once" or whatever.

Yeah, the framerate is clunky, but that is it.

Yea what about them? Why are you looking at me like that? Dude?

Blurred textures > jaggies
>>
Name some legitimate flaws besides the camera being a tad annoying in some sections.
>>
>>383694058
jaggies are comfy
>>
>>383691491
Sunshine is worse than N64. I don't want to have to sit through an hour of tutorials and cutscenes to play world 1-1 of a mario game. N64 was like a 20 second cutscene and you're free to go wherever, start on whatever world you want and so on. Sunshine was linear as fuck
>>
>>383691274

funny thing, my brother in law has a n64 in near mint condition, only the controller's plug is kind of fucked up but within a few power cycles everything werks

plugged it last weekend and yeah it still is one damn great platformer

eat shit op
>>
Mario 64 is stupid. All you do is run around a castle and you can't even do anything. I don't get what all the hype is about.
>>
>>383691274
>>383691491
How much bad taste do you need to hold these opinions.
>>
>>383693654
PS1 is very mediocre. Can't do 3D as good as N64, can't do 2D as good as the Saturn.
>>383694058
Worst thing about ps1 isn't even the jaggies, it's the incorrect perspective and the warping textures.
>>
>>383691274
I bet you enjoy games made after 2007 exclusively, you little faggot.
>>
The power of nostalgia is astounding.
>>
>>383693654
There are tons of PS1 games that still hold up visually. The low-res aesthetic is pretty comfy when paired with good art direction. N64 games just look like a blurry mess.

>>
>>383691274
why do you think that review is still relevant?

it IS a classic masterpiece because it was the first good 3d platformer. that doesnt mean it's better than everything (or ANYthing) since.
>>
>>383691274
I didn't have the N64 back, some friends did, my younger brother had a PSX that I used from time to time.
Always thought the N64 was pure shit, and I still think it is.
Not that the PSX was much better, but to this day I still find myself playing games from it that I didn't get to play back then, it doesn't happen like that on the 64, because literally NO GAMES.
Thanks for subscribing.

>>383698084
Name a 3D platformer better than SM64.
>>
>>383691274
>playing old games that you've never played before
What did you expect kiddo. The nostalgia provides at least half the enjoyment
>>
>>383695104
Yet it has tons more good games than both of them together
>>
Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time are good games. Mario 64 was never good. The controls are, too bad the levels are shit.

Honestly I've played Mario 64 so many times that it's hard for me to evaluate it. It was one of the first games I played too. But one thing is true: even today it's one of the most fluid 3D platformers, most of them are slower or too slippery, have laggy moves or animations, Mario 64 has tight controls and it shows in that it's the most popular speedrun game.

>Have so much fun collecting 120 stars for 1st time ever
>>
>>383691274

Have you considered that you might be an underage retard with shit taste?

Super Mario 64 is still a 10/10 and nearly unsurpassed in the platforming genre today. One of the only contenders is another N64 game, Banjo-Kazooie. Ocarina of Time is still in the top 10 action adventure games and Star Fox 64 is still among the best 3D rail shooters. On the PS1, FF7 and FF9 are both in the top 10 best RPGs ever made, and likewise for MGS1 and stealth games.
>>
I played SM64 first time this year. The movement felt amazing, just running around from place A to B feels fun because of the mechanics and possibilities.
I want a modern platformer with similar controls
>>
>>383691274
I'd tell you to suck my cock but I don't want you to get your shit taste on it
>>
>>383691274
You should actually kill yourself
>>
>>383698084
>why do you think that review is still relevant?
The same opinion can be found in many modern articles, revisitings, top lists etc. If they were actually that good, they would still be playable like many other games from that period, and even before, are.

Conkers Bad Fur Day
>>

The textures shifting around is not a fun thing to look at.
>>
Is this incest?

Okay, I don't know if this is actually incest since it wasn't something actually sexual in the technical sense but here goes.

When I was little my mom used to put a buttplug in me (which she called a poop plug) and I'd wear it all the time. I was told only to take it out to poop, wipe my ***, then put it back in.

I was really young so I thought this was just something everybody did but one time at school I dropped it when I flushed the toilet and it ended up getting flushed. So when I went back to class I told my teacher that my poop plug got flushed down the toilet. She had no idea what I was talking about so she sent me to the school nurse.

Well after trying to explain what a poop plug was for 15 minutes the school calls the police. The police ask me all these questions and at first I'm scared because I think I'm in trouble for losing my poop plug. Turns out my mom has schizophrenia and was making me wear this ********* so Satan couldn't stick his cock in my pooper and make me gay

Can't determine without pictures of your mother.
>>
Mario 64's Controls are elder God tier. There has been no 3D platformer since, not even other mario games where it feel as solid to move. Sunshine comes closest, but there is nothing better. I'm hoping Odyssey can top it.

weren't there only like, 3 worlds open at the start? didn't most of them require stars to unlock?
>>

>>
>>383693654

>>
>>383700294
>being this young
>being this ignorant
>>
>>383691274
Mario 64 has dated graphics, I suppose? Looks blocky because there aren't many polygons?

It's tight controls and incredible use of space and movement still keep it a 10/10. It won't ever not be.
>>
If someone thinks Mario 64 is dated or overrated, it's a surefire way to tell that they're bad at video games and probably had Ps2 as their first console. No 3D platformer released since has had such fluid movement or level design, not one.
>>
>>383703724

The fluid movement was good tier but the level design was shit and experimental and totally not designed around that liberty of movement
>>
>>383703828
I found the "panoramic" sandbox levels to suit the fluid movement really well. Maybe the devs didn't necessarily intend for all the ways that you could reach a star with some creativity, but they were probably aware of the possibilities and sure didn't care to "fix" them. I think the spacial design of the levels was at least in part meant to aid Mario's fluid movement, except for a few cancerous ones like Tick Tock Clock.
>>
>>383691274
I also played last year for my first time and you have to be fucking blind to not appreciate how well put together SM64 is.
>>
>>383700294
It was a widly discussed problem back in the day. Why would you just sit and lie about things you don't know?
>>
>>383691274
64 is still a great game. The fuck are you on about?
>>
>>383704125
>Tick Tock Clock

That levels great, especially once you start incorporating where the hands are to control how fast the platforms move around. Worst levels were Wet-Dry World and Hazy Maze Caves.

Most old things arent that great today, but at the time they were so innovating and fun, now those gimmicks are just regular shit. This game in particular was fantastic, you can do everything, you can have fun without even beating the levels, discovering new worlds, new rooms and enemies was a great idea. If I replay this, it wouldnt be that good as the first time I played it when I was 6 years old. 6 FUCKING YEARS OLD, now im 24. But after all I would enjoy it, because it was fun to me and I still like this kind of games.

OP you are a pathetic fag that never played n64 games, instead of saying that you are trying to give them a chance, you should try to enjoy them thinking this was the best at that time. Still not liking them? Then you are a milenial that cant enjoy good things, so go and fuck yourself
>>
>>383693654
75% of the time it's Filtered 64x64 textures vs. unfiltered 128x128 textures
>>
>>383704847
>Wet-Dry World
iirc Wet-Dry World has some of the most absurd ways to circumvent all of its tedious bullshit that I almost wanna say it's a masterclass of level design. I wish I had some of the webms of it on hand.
