I've just finished fallout 1 for the first time the other day and I thought it was a blast. Combat can be slow espesh when you run into a group of rats fukmelife. But its a helluva lot more fun, refreshing, immersive and interesting than the later fallouts. So I'm not a victim to nostalgia goggles here. I tried playing fallout 4 yesterday while I'm currently playing through fallout 2 and it couldn't grab my attention at all. Now I understand why people shit on f4 so much.

Bought Fallout collection from summer sale and I'm currently 10 hours in Fallout 1. So far loving it. Yeah, it's pretty slow paced and the time limit is making me anxious, but it's a great game. I made my guy really good in sneaking, lockpicking, and stealing, so now I'm just looting every single shop I can see. I'm like level 4 and already carry thousands and thousands of caps. I can bribe people, steal shit from merchants and sell it back to them etc.

Makes me feel like a real scumbag, but as long as I don't get caught it should be good. My karma is +14, so nobody even expects me. I walk in store and leave with bag full of expensive guns. Gladly Tycho has my back when in combat, my combat skills aren't that good.

Fallout 2 is the same thing but if your character has a high science skill, go to the reactor terminal in Gecko. You get to piss off someone over the internet and get your location traced.
