assuming you mean the cave fight, you dont need to grind to beat him. but over leveling trunks to get multiheal is the easy win.

however.
an issue in the 3ds version is that you're going to have less battles than ps2 due to no random encounters. you're going to be under-leveled in comparison.

grinding is a pretty nebulous term. Any time perceived as "extra" can be called grinding, but if you don't like the game and are just slogging through it, then grinding is seen as bad.

what if its just fun to to level up on purpose and not just make a beeline to the next story part?
