Part of the reason SF2 is so popular is because each of the characters have iconic designs, voices and special techniques.

Only the most hardcore of tourneybros care specifcally about "functions" and I'm sure even they got to like said characters alot even if they just played them to win.

I've seriously wondered why Capcom never did an inter-series crossover fighter spanning all their own franchises in the style of a MvC game. Or using the custom grooves of CvS2.
