why not? Someone who plays games is a gamer.
It's like with everything else:
Someone who works on projects is a projector
Someone who swims in a pool is a pooler.
Someone who climbs mountains is a mountainer.
Someone who watches TV is a televiser
etc.
That's just how the English language works.

Nobody on /v/ calls themselves a gamer, fucking nobody. /v/ has been actively weeding out the use of the term on this board for years. No-one says it anymore.
