The Abyss it he realm of the dead, and doesn't actually exist on the same plane as the real world, although it can intersect with it.

The deep is the dark area at the bottom of the world that the hollows at the beginning of Dark souls 1 emerge from. It's contaminated by the corpses of history and the general filth of humanity running down into it (like the Gutter and the Rotten in Dark Souls 2.)

My mother ran off when I was 5 and my dad died when I was 13. It's the a more "peaceful" abyss filled with gnawing insects. The big hole before the Cathedral is the entrance to it, but because From was so lazy with DS3 you never go to it. Same for Londor.

The deep is a vision that Aldritch had, that's all we know for certain. It had corrupting powers and is made from soul dregs, the heaviest thing in the human body in dark souls lore. It doesn't have anything to do with the abyss as far as I know. This video covers it more thoroughly and fluently than I could ever put it.

If I can remember it correctly I believe the stairway to it is right downstairs from the balcony area where the giant is. You know you're going the right way if a slime falls on top of you.
