The genre took a nosedive after 2006 when the shitbox 360 came out and shareholders only greenlit multiplats.
Due to controllers being utter fucking shit for FPS the games had to be dumbed down to toddler level, physics and visuals also suffered due to shit hardware.
There was Stalker and the first Crysis, but that's about it yeah.
Only military simulators or PvP multiplayer stuff survived somewhat.
