There's only 4 of them, and there are 7 koopalings, this way they don't have to be every major boss in the game, the way the koopalings were in Paper Mario Color Splash, Mario and Luigi Paper Jam, and New Super Mario Bros Wii, U and 2.

The Koopalings were way too over exposed, and I say this as a fan. I think them being the only new characters that weren't babies or metal in Mario Kart 8 was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I like the Koopalings, but I'm getting fucking tired of them. I was glad when they came back, but for that period of "Mario must be homogonized to shit" with all of the New Super games, instead of having to think of anything new, or unique, they would just default to the Koopalings.

The most unique thing they did with them was in Color Splash, and even that is plagued with "Do you have X Sticker? No? You lose!" Larry Koopa will literally dunk on you if you don't have the right sticker when you fight him.

I've been a fan of them since the Mario 3 cartoon, but they need a break

The koopalings are related, the rabbits are probably unrelated.
The koopalings are teens and the rabbits are wedding planners.

They seem different enough to me. The big one in blue looks like Morton with Ludwig's teeth, but that's it. If the koopalings were put into a mainline 3D game like Odyssey, which would be alright, they should be more minor characters with individualized little roles. As a unit of bosses they've gotten stale, and they were never really supposed to appear all the same place doing the same things.
