Last one I played all the way through was Chrono Trigger. Bought Breath of Fire IV on PSN a few months ago but I'm only about 3 hours in. Bought Earthbound on Wii U shop last year but haven't played it at all. Same with Undertale on Steam. I'm really bad with JRPGs.

Am I missing out by holding off on Earthbound this long? On a scale of 1 to 5 how good of a game is it? How does it compare to Chrono Trigger?

Played FF1 20th anniversary on PSP before I played Chrono Trigger lel. I just remembered though, I have Final Fantasy 3 laying around here somewhere. I recommend playing Earthbound (Mother 2) before Mother 3 unless you don't like EB. The story isn't huge but the story of Mother 3 has a bigger impact if younplayed Mother 2. I have heard of people who like one/two of thevgames but not the other(s) so I say try all three eventually.

Ignore the Nes game, just read a story summary. Try Snes EB, talk to everyone and try to get into the mood of the game. It's not overly hard so you shouldn't have to grind. If you don't get into it by the second town just play M3.

I think I like JRPGs a bit too much, I can never get around to playing new games because I keep replaying my favourites.

Last new game I tried was Panzer Dragoon Saga. It's an interesting game but I feel like I already figured out the battle system and the random battles have become tedious.

I'm looking for a cute and comfy JRPG that I can play (or emulate) on a low-end computer. What games should I look into?

I only ever beat three JRPGs in my life: Earthbound, Mother 3, and Persona 5.

Honorable mentions; FF7 which I played a lot years ago on PC, but the game kept crashing after disc 2 I think and I couldn't continue. I probably would have finished it.

I also fucking love Persona 2, but it's a chore to dungeon crawl in it so I can't justify my time with it with so many other games out there. Life is too short.

Finishing FF7 right now. Gonna go back to LR and finally finish it too since I put it on hold after completing every main and side quest on day 9. Planning to give VIII and X-2 another chance but can't decide which one to start first.

I'm not an expert on the matter but I have absolutely loved the ones I have played. My favorites are: FF7, FF8, Mother 3, Chrono Trigger.

I've been holding off for a very long time on playing Trails in the Sky SC. I played FC when the PC version hit and it blew me away, easily one of my favorite games. fuuuck every time i play earthbound i try to grind this part to find the sword of kings but i give up and move on. maybe someday

anyhow i'm currently playing bravely second, it feels a little weird coming right from bravely default. i like but also don't like how jobs have reduced amounts of levels, sorta feels like a lot is missing, but at least it doesn't take until endgame to get the higher levels of a job.

Undertale is not a jrpg summerfriend.

I'm playing SMT Strange Journey and it's pretty cool so far. Just beat Asura and going chaos route.

Just finished Faria a few minutes ago - if you can call it a JRPG - which I now wish I did a long time ago
Can't help but wonder how hard it'd be torn apart for its twist if it were released today though

The Alliance Alive was so perfect that I'm satisfied for the rest of the year, nothing that comes out is going to be that good again for a while

The combat is extremely rough and poorly balanced. You're best off not fighting anything until Dedusmuln joins you. On the other hand, dying actually rewards you, since any meat you gain from killing enemies can be synthesized into extra Flesh(HP) in limbo. Buy blind-resistant equipment at the beginning. Avoid those horrible moving brain things at all costs until Pongorma joins you.

As for not getting it, you won't. Most NPC dialogue is randomly generated. It's unabashedly bizarre and nonsensical but that's why I love it.

I'm a huge TRPG fan, too. My favourite is Fire Emblem Thracia 776 because the level design is unparalleled. I keep replaying it and trying new challenge runs because it's so fun to plan out elaborate tactics.
