I'm not sure. The card system just doesn't look like it works all too well in 3D space, as opposed to a 2D isometric view. Re:CoM is essentially Reused Assets: The Game. Not to mention CoM GBA has the KH1 voicelines for Sora.

Boss difficulty went fucking bonkers from the 3D planes though - like Dark Riku 4 in GBA CoM is a pain in the fucking ass because he can Dark Aura whenever he feels the fuck like it and you HAVE to keep a good 0 stock to break each one because if you don't you'll either die or almost die and be Confused and then die
in the PS2 version though, Proud Mode Larxene is a pain in the fucking ass because her personal boss card makes her fast as fuck and she gets a MASSIVE eight hit combo off of a single blue card that will probably instantly kill you if the first hit connects

it's fun as hell though, especially as Riku when you get to use all Boss cards willynilly and feel broke as fuck

BbS started development in 2005, right as vanilla KHII was wrapping up, and the FM secret ending is literally a scene from the game

KHIIFM was released in 2007 so BbS was well past planning by then.

I've been revisiting these games recently in the 1.5 + 2.5 Collection on PS4. I thought I had a pretty big understanding of the story but anything before BBS in the timeline is too deep for me. I can't think of another series where even a life long fan could still feel like they're surface level. The mobile game looks really cute but I can't really get into how it plays.
The world they're gonna reveal at D23 has to be Frozen. There's just no way it's anything else. If it's being hyped up this much it's gotta be something they know is gonna be a knockout hit.

Roxas' story makes me literally cry bitch tears.This one time I was on a nine hour flight back from tokyo and I had nothing else to play except 358/2 days and I started crying while the ending cutscenes were playing. The old lady that sat next to me got really concerned and made a commotion, asking if I was okay and all that.

Can someone please explain the appeal of this series? The combat looks repetetive and boring with every gameplay footage I've seen just using the same combos and couple of spells over and over again in every battle (even bosses), the story is impossible to take seriously because it's based on fucking Disney characters and the character designs are some of the blandest anime designs I've seen. So what is the appeal? "Oh neat, I remember this Disney movie!"?

But overall, KH just feels good to play, there are tons of memorable encounters and the worlds are neat.

The story really doesn't have a lot to do with the Disney characters, and the ones who are a large part of it don't necessarily feel like Disney characters when they're there, if that makes sense.
There's a lot of charm that shines through. And personally, I love a story that lets me piece shit together myself to form a deeper understanding.

The music is great, too.

Good job, a legitimate flaw with the game, but that's only because they're pushing the shitty minigames over the core gameplay which is good.

The command system is dumb, but it's actually enjoyable this time because the commands flow into each other much better making for a smoother experience all around. Commands are also much better balanced and keyblades actually making a difference beyond "this one has bigger numbers" is really good.

1 is okay story wise because its more self contained. Gameplay wise its average tier. I like 1 for what it is nostalgia wise and that it isnt a complete clusterfuck of plotholes (yet). If you get the ps4 collection give 1 a playthrough formthe storybeats and fun mechanics. When you wanna wreck shit and have fun, theres no beating 2 for gameplay. 2 is also a complete mess of a story btw so dont try to bother getting invested in the stories nuances and accept it as a shallow shonen anime tier story (its way easier that eay trust me). there are some other lesser known games like re:chain of memories and birth by sleep that are good to give a run through once youve played the fuck out of 2 and 1. Dont expect anything above average for them though gameplay wise, and the story becomes much more complex in these spinoffs since they are a prerequisite for the plot which is not a good thing unless you are a die hard fan and even then it gets ridiculous.
One thing that is consistent in all these games is how god tier the music is. The orginial character designs are also interesting if a bit repititive with all the belts and zippers. If this ps4 collection is anything its good for value in terms of content, although if you find the story lackluster and the games repetitive you'll disagree heavily.
