Decided to go ahead and try this out. I couldn't really get into Skyrim, but this game looks promising. What am I in for?
(actual criticism instead of shitposting would be appreciated)
Steaming pile of shit that people only like because of nostalgia

There is a lot of fun to be had, but you'll probablymiss it
a game that in essence was a fluke on how good it is
not even earlier bethesda games like daggerfall were as good as morrowind, and the latter bethesda games are known for being on a downward spiral

A fun RPG.

Actually pay attention and think when you create your class and you will be golden. Here's a guide if you don't know what you are doing and you're lazy

It's aged badly. But there is another game that came out around the same time and has aged well, with even better mechanics.

if anything the old graphics have added to the alien feel, gothicfag

>pirated game
you're going to call me a troll but:
why bother playing these old RPGs? why would you want to fight against archaic unfun gameplay systems to get some story in your brain? you are literally fighting AGAINST the game to get to what you want
go read wheel of time, LOTR, hell even the elder scrolls wiki entries on the lore. you can even read all the quest text and dialogue options if you'd like. does it really matter whether or not you personally swung at a cliffracer for 20 minutes?

false flagging
nice try

oh by the way, a true mage class is both the most OP and the most fun way to playapparentlyI'm on my first real play-through myself and I'm playing as a spellsword so the most I can say is that the magic system is crazy.

In all honesty, most of my gameplay experience is very casual, and I mostly play platformers, capeshit, survival horror and I've never really played RPGs outside of Pokemon and trying to play Kingdom hearts. I really just want to explore.

check the IP counter newfaggot. Then count the posts.
A truly magnificent and detailed world with tons of atmosphere, goat sound track, and great story. Be sure to actually read the books in game, at least the important ones. A lot of the skill books are pretty good too. Play it vanilla first run (with expansions)
And look some shit up before making your character, it's easy to gimp yourself if it's your first time.

the combat is boring. its like skyrim but sometimes u miss, alot.
graphics are no longer appealing.
walking. walking. walking.
the journal
so much fucking text.
im still playing it, but god, it's fucking BORING
In my opinion, the single greatest videogame to ever exist. I think ive put at least 1000 hours into it. Nothing will ever top it for me.
Anyway, my point is it's really dated. Other games like Gothic 2 would be a much better choice.

all the best RPG's are from the 90's and early 2000's
>>383548028
>Just want to explore
Not even lying. Skyrim is better for exploring than Morrowind.
Cliff racers are super rare and almost never spawn.
>>383547170
Every quest is "go here, kill/fetch thing, come back" Elder Scrolls was never good
>>383547170
>ibf do you even CHIM
A game that's got amazing story, weird ass shit, fun spells, amazing class building, great NPC's, and an interesting and captivating storyline.
Unfortunately it's aged horribly and it's rather clunky as a result.
>>383547170
The combat is fucking terrible, and you have to walk everywhere.
The quests and atmosphere are good though, which I why it is remembered as a good game by those blinded by nostalgia.
I never played it but I used to subscribe to both EGM and PC Gamer at the time.
PC Gamer loved it, called it an instant classic.
EGM didn't understand what the big deal was, other than to walk around and look at stuff.
Sums up what its audience is: the master race loves potential and to be punished for not having discovered it yet. Kinda sick, but what else are they going to do with their lives?
The console peasants want instant satisfaction and crisp, easy to understand action. I don't know anyone who has gotten that out of Morrowind.

Dice rolls
The greatest RPG of all time
But really, great exploration and player freedom, but generic NPCs aside from quest NPCs. A few tips:
1) Get the Code Patch. Fixes a lot of bugs and gives quick casting of spells like in Oblivion.
2) The MISS MISS MISS meme is due to low fatigue and weapon skill. Make sure you use a weapon (like Spear) that you have a high skill in, and if you see an enemy ahead, switch from running to walking speed to save stamina. Also, do some Alchemy; Restore Fatigue potions ease the burden a lot.
3) Choose at least one School of magic, since that's where the real freedom starts. Restoration is a must for healing, and Alteration lets you walk on water, levitate, and open locked doors without Lockpicks
If I think of any more tips, I'll post em

I meant exploring game choices, but I want that too. I feel like Skyrim was way too big for me, even though the stuff I found was cool
An authentic hand crafted rpg with great lore and atmosphere.
I remember when I first bought it I didn't play it for months because it looked and played a bit dull, but once you get into it you will never find another game like it again.
>>383548931
Bro do you even CHIM?
>>383547170
if you wanna go fast choose anti magic debuff perks so you can use boots of blinding speed you can see

Why is it that when literally anyone brings up Gothic II this picture gets posted? Not the title screen or another screenshot, only this picture. Gives me conniptions.
>>383549136
Honestly Morrowinds map isn't THAT much smaller, and desu it felt bigger due to lack of fast travel and the terrain being harder to traverse in general.
>>383547170
The cat people reproduce based on the phases of the moon, there are twenty subspecies ranging from house cats, to cat people, to cat gorillas. They can all interbreed with each other and genetics has no bearing on what subspecies they are, only the phases of the twin moons, which means a cat person and a house cat can have a cat gorilla child.
The lizard men are selectively bred gene engineered servants of a race of sentient all seeing trees that come from beyond the beginning of time, and also have a subconscious hivemind.
The Elves are literally descended form Gods, and their divinity was stolen by a God to make man. As punishment that God was bisected and the two halves formed the twin moons.
The Orcs look that way because their God was eaten by another God, then shat out (I swear to christ I'm not making that up).
Humans were enslaved until the Gods sent a time traveling cyborg insane racist berserker from the future to free mankind.
The console commands are a real thing, and certain characters sometimes access the console to achieve a state called CHIM and become gods.

This, I think the first merchant in the game sells a resist magika. Use it to make a resist 100% for 2 or 3 second spell (balmora mages guild will have a spellcrafter), then when you find that shady chick nw of Caldera and escort her to gnisis or wherever she'll hook you up with the boots that make the game way fucking easier
>>383547914
Pure mage has the most difficult start to the game, and just gets more and more powerful until you can levitate faster than most classes run and shoot fireballs that destroy entire towns. The power limit of your spells in Morrowind is directly linked to how much mana you have. So, if you want to have the absolute most powerful spells, then the best start is High Elf with the Atronach sign, which has something like four times more MP than anyone else.
>>383549387
It's a common picture associated with the greatest RPG ever made.
>>383550043
I'm just saying with the plethora of images you could attach to a Gothic II post that seems to be the only one used. I have no idea why that one in particular rose above the rest.
