They can charge you money for DLC that does what cheats used to do, so they will. Even the ones that don't, a lot of times don't include cheats because it fucks with achievement systems (or that's their excuse, since it's easy as fuck to disable achievements when cheats are on). It's the stupidest shit but hey, welcome to the modern age.

Games these days are too easy and linear to even bother with cheats, as what would they do in a game like BOTW or TLOU

Games are such productions today. And cheats always were a black sheep mechanic, right? The sole purpose of the cheat code is to undermine the entire rest of the game. It doesn't make sense from a design perspective. Modern games are a shit show but considering production costs I understand why devs don't want to fuck around anymore.

I actually like this idea, especially when applied to a game that's naturally hard but still fair. Tropical Freeze is a good example, reviewers slammed it for being too hard even though it's very easy once you locate your fucking testicles, adding easy mode DLC is just a solid "fuck you" to the shitters who can't function when things don't go exactly their way.
