It will me much better understanding the mechanics.
I love this game, but the fact that they tell you NOTHING about how to handle upgrades on weapons and how they interfere is bullshit.

You're not supposed to upgrade the Drake Sword, it's supposed to get you by until you have your bearings and know/understand what you would like to upgrade.

I think my first playthrough, I used the Drake Sword maybe all the way through Blighttown, and then before I went into Sen's I switched to a Zweihander as much as I could upgrade it.

No I didn't upgrade the Drake sword. I actually also stopped using it after blight town and that's when I upgraded all those weapons. I'm now just trying to figure out which one I feel more comfortable with now. So far it's the Halbred.

Never used the Halberd, but I will say that none of the other Dark Souls games feel nearly as good as this one, in terms of playing.

Get through Sen's Fortress, and holy shit it's like the most amazing shit ever. But, leave well prepared, you won't want to turn back until you've completed the mission at hand.

Dark Souls 2 has the same feel as the first game, they completely lost touch with Dark Souls 3, though.

If you like the first game, I'll bet you'll enjoy #2 more than #3.

My first run was the normal, heavy armor, shield, Drake Sword.
My second one was the way I always play these games. Dex build.
Katana and Pyromancer, just some rags as clothes and evasion being my best friend.
It was amazing.
DS2, 3 and BB I managed to play Dex build in the first run too.
Youare about to have much fun, anon. But play 1 again, fresh character.
