It ruined farm sims for me because people actually have dialogue. Stardew isn't TOO bad bad because it has some for every day of the week or something, but SoS was unbearable because they only had 1 line for each affection level or something. It's like why bother becoming friends and talking to people if they just say "farming is hard!" every day for the next season and a half? It amazes me that you an go a year or two and not have a single repeating dialogue on the datable characters.

This is a game that takes into account your proficiency in opening chests or finding hidden items in the environment, your proficiency in eating, your proficiency in walking, your proficiency in bathing and your proficiency in sleeping.

Shops are pointless because you can brew your own potions, forge your own gear and cook your own food. Food heals a ton and gives lots of buffs. You even the proper cooking equipment, you have a frying pan, stove, cooking pot, mixer, oven and more.

The game has three story arcs you can do at your own pace, you can literally ignore the story at any time and focus on holding festivals, developing friendships with the townsfolk and improving your workshop if you wanted to.

Rune Factory 4 is insane. It's the game that keeps on giving. You think you've completed it once, but it turns out you haven't. Then you think you've completed it again, but nope! It's like buying three games for the price of one.

It's one of the few, very rare occasions where the game has too much content.

3 is a DS game, but honestly I'd almost recommend buying a cheap system just for 4 anyway. Literally the only problem I had with it was RNG-based events and that only comes up at the extreme endgame (and can still be rigged to some extent anyway.)

Unfortunately, the dialogue isn't varied enough to completely not repeat like RF4, but I'd say the villagers have 4-5 times the number of lines as compared to SoS1.

The framerate is much better. ToT fixes so many things. Your farm is close to all the towns so no more constant travelling, the progression requirements aren't nearly as grindy, the cast is really fun.

And the three towns are fucking adorable. The Westerners literally go "Howdy, pardner" and hug you and have ranches and bald eagles and mines, it's literally Texas.

ToT has so many improvements it's hard to even list all of them. It's basically better in every way to SoS1. You might want to wait for the localisation of the DLC to finish, it adds more dialogue for villagers along with a ton of new content, scenes and events.

The gear crafting in this game got me rock hard. I love being able to ridiculously overpowered gear, and in this game, it was practically necessary for the final dungeon. I don't recall the exact details, but I'm fairly certain I was immune to all status effects, absorbed all elements, and was immune to 90% of any other form of damage.

I've played Rune Factory 2 and enjoyed it a ton.
