Even if sony went 480p their games wouldn't run at 60fps because the ps4 cpu is a botleneck.

Ps4 has a good amount of ram and a decent gpu for 1080p games but the cpu is smartphone-tier.

They think looking pretty is more important than the quality of the experience, which is evident in the kinds of games that they flock too.

A straightforward home console that outputs at 720p, released in 2017, would be decimated by word of mouth even if all games were locked at 60fps.

The only reason the Switch gets a pass on this is because it's basically just a portable with an HDMI out. It's power is impressive given it's tiny form factor, but if it was a standard console it would not be considered acceptable by a wide majority of people.
