Why hasn't anyone made a game with this setting yet? Maybe The dark tower movie will bring some attention to something similar if it hits big.

its tactical shooter, but some aspects of it suck. but the setting saves the game

i started reading The Dark Tower not long ago, i'm 200 pages into the last book, and i was just thinking about how there's no really game in that genre. but yeah, it is a pretty weird genre.

That's what's Obsidian dream game is, an isometric rpg based on some wild west /tg/ shit with occult stuff. They can't do it because they said only 5 people would play it.
>>
>>383476383
OR. Maybe developers could make dystopian, cyberpunk aesthetics reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell, Judge Dredd, and NeoTokyo?
>>
>>383477328
Sorry anon. We proved this was the Best Timeline, that doesn't mean it still isn't shit.
>>
>>383476992
I imagined the first book as a game similar to dark souls where every bonfire was the last location the man in black stayed at. Wouldn't work in any other aspect but always thought that something inspired by it would work pretty well. Like showing up to a town where the "boss" has always been before you.

Tyranny had its own appeal. It was fantasy without tolkien-shit. I liked it for that alone. Supposedly, they did a market study on the wild west thing and found out that nobody wanted to play it. Not to mention the /tg/ source was probably already pretty niche.
>>
>>383476871

>>
>>383477793
Gun, another classic, is much more open world. Darkwatch was set on-rails with some challenging levels. But I could be remembering wrong on that last bit. Had a Paragon/Renegade system of sorts, and affected the final boss in small way, and gives you two endings dependent on the choices you made prior. It was a solid game, whether or not it's aged well, I've no clue.

Not him,
the combat is pretty unremarkable, not bad just ... not good or interesting either, but the story and the characters makes up for it, you'll get to play a lot of different campaigns each set with different characters and goals, that pretty much explains their side of the story, that aspect of the game and the narration is very well done, the rest not so much, it's worth a shot in my opinion.

>>383477418
I wish Obsidian would get a bit more ambitious with their games. Bringing back crpgs is cool but it's kind of lame when they act as though the mechanics back in the day were perfected and that not much more needed to be added so they just write some new quests and slap on some mediocre graphics. When really they could do so much more, like NPC schedules, larger scale and more complicated events, phasing, considerably better graphics and animations and so on.
>>

Considering they completely changed the story and key characters like Susannah are missing, I can live with Elba as Roland. What I can't get over is they have the nerve to have him recite the Gunslinger Mantra in the fucking trailer and don't fucking show him shooting from the hip once. I'm going to see this piece of shit movie because I've loved the novels since I was a kid, but goddammit I'm pissed already. Love him or hate him, King can paint a picture with words and the Dark Tower novels are no exception. Roland' s revolvers were single action which he fan fired from the fucking hip.

Just starting the 4th book and shit is pretty good
If you're thinking on reading, just don't expect quality of the first book right after it, 2nd one is kind of slow with great parts on it but not quite as good as the first one, there's also lots of time fuckery and magic going on, and King also plays with timelines and paradoxes
The main cast is... not quite as you may picture them, but they can deliver, and starting the 3rd one, the quality starts picking up in a pretty consistent way
Also, Dark Man kind of reminds me of this guy sometimes

Sort of like the Stephen King Dark Tower universe? I would be totally into a game inspired by that subgenre. I think the issue is more there aren't many Western games. Period. And select few of them were good. And even fewer actually aged well.

It bums me out that the trailer for the Dark Tower movie was shit. That doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be shit... but it certainly gives off that vibe and it certainly does not resemble the novels.

I was accepting of the action for the first half of the trailer. The first time he reloads by quickly inserting bullets was neat enough. I wasn't excited about it. Just watching. But that slow motion shot of him reloading by swinging a gun around at falling bullets at the wrong angle I was irritated.

Probably the most upsetting thing is that Jake travels through a portal. Granted its been 11 years since I read the Gunslinger. But I am almost certain he is transported to another universe after being pushed in front of a car. I remember that clearly because Stephen King goes into detail about the fact that his testicles exploded after the car ran over his junk. Then he experiences the mental trauma of remembering his own death. Maybe I mixed up events but I don't remember a portal.

The sad thing is Matthew McConaughey is perfectly cast as the Man in Black. I remember reading the preface and King outwardly stating that Mathew McConaughey was the inspiration.

I've been reading through Le Morte D'Arthur lately as what's stood out to me the most is that all of these stories about the Knights of the Round Table would work great if adapted into a western. Random stories about Lancelot cleaving dickass knights through the head as he roams the countryside translate really easily into a lone gunman wandering the desert gunning down bad dudes.
>>
>>383496871
About Jake, don't read if you haven got to the 3rd book the second time he travels in by the spooky house that the Dean brothers visited, he gets attacked by a spirit of marble and shit, this time the trailer actually spotted on on that, with the hallucinations and the like

Yeah. I finished the whole series in a summer 11 years ago (I think there was another book written since then that takes place somewhere in the middle of the series. I haven't read that book though.). I was a big fan of the Dark Tower. My memory is hazy after all that time. Thanks for the clarification. I was mistaken then.

I'm not expecting much from these movies. The trailer killed the little excitement I did have. I know its not supposed to be the same story, its supposed to be a sequel of sorts. But their creative liberties taken seem outwardly bad when compared to King's original work.

Though I am critical and a pessimist I won't jump to conclusions about the movie. I will have to see it. All I really know is that the trailer was awful. We'll see what happens I guess.

>If you read them this would be obvious.

Not even trying to be /pol/ but if they really were supposed to be a true-to-heart sequel Roland would be fucking white. There's no excuse for it. The back and forth between Roland, Detta, and Eddie was a key fucking plot point based on race.

Did you actually read them?

don't get my hopes up damnit. I suspect they'll do something completely different, like armored core or something.

I think Armored Core is their next title. After that? Who knows?

If they have solid shooting mechanics and an improved netcode (assuming its online at all) I would be all aboard a Western FromSoft game.

Shit, first thing I thought of as well.

Not Obsidian, but Sawyer's specifically. A game about spirit outbreak during the Wild West era, with different historical factions of the world having to react to that based on religious and spiritual beliefs they held at that point.

Western Dark Souls? Or BloodBorne II?

*thought
What the fuck is wrong with me lately. I made this mistake 5 times this past week. Not that anyone cares anyway.

It would be really cool, but I'm sure it won't happen so soon.

IIRC Miyazaki said they're working on 3 titles. A new AC is already confirmed, a "weird game" and a dark fantasy.

I would bet on a new IP if that's the case. Could be in the same universe as BB with all that Great Ones stuff, but instead of being centered around a "bloodborne" disease it would be something else.

this. I was actually surprised how much content Undead Nightmare added. It was fun as hell. Finding all the secret stuff was cool too. The Sasquatch mission made me sad though.

What about High Plains Drifter?

I want Jonah Hex: The Comic Book the Game

I really like this piece of artwork. It's really subtle and well made comparing to GRINNING EVIL DEAD GUY WITH A GUN.
