I tried the demo and the text was like eye-rape to me. New 3DS LL. I dunno if I'm blind or have eye problems but the edges of the characters were all fuzzy and it literally made my eyes hurt.

That text doesn't look bad though, it's just black with white background. Does it switch past the beginning to that sort of text all the time?

Sort of like this image from their site. This straight up hurts my eyes to look at - I can read it, but it's like someone's doing one of those 'cross your eyes and then unfocus them' tricks on me and it makes me dizzy

The combat is just like SaGa where you have to be careful with your resources because there's an RNG aspect to both learning new skills and enemy attack patterns, but the roles let you control damage/defense/etc % increases per character to add another layer to that
Lategame you start getting access to silly ones that give big boosts but essentially force whoever has it to go last, and stuff like that which makes them more interesting than "25% to attack/defense/support" like the default ones are, further modified by which row you're on

That said difficulty-wise it's not as hardcore as SaGa, but there's a fair amount of optional shit so I at least stayed engaged the whole time

Godspeed anon, my opinion is basically that Galil & Ursula's scenario at the beginning is a bit "meh" but everything immediately afterward ramps way up and there aren't many lulls in excitement
Though, that's because you get a bigass ship and the game turns into Skies of Arcadia where you travel the world recruiting every named character you met as a crew member, which is exactly what I'd always wanted

Does the plot have more exposition, character interactions, and cutscenes? TLoL just had the Singing Stones explain it, for the most part.
Is recruitment of the other protagonists more significant than TLoL, where they just show up on the beach or you just start with them?
Is multiple endings handled like in TLoL, with a tiny change towards the ending you have to slog the entire game through?

In fact it's not done by FuRyu but by Cattle Call, which is a tiny ass company made by former Square employees and lead by one of Kawazu's longtime protegees and student, I think they're not even 20 people right now.

It's a good game if you don't like the more weird and minimalistic modern SaGa standard, it is infinitely more derivative but if you like the SaGa games from the 4th gen like 3 then AraAra is perfect for you, and it's much better than the half baked garbage that was LoL.

I knew someone who played it. Said he liked way more then Legacy.

Nope, completely gone, you have to buy/find premade maps now

Its plot is handled in traditional linear JRPG style instead of SaGa copypaste now, so yes
For having a cast of 12 characters they actually did a decent job of having most of the characters interact with each other in scenes, even the optional ones
NPCs also talk to both you and each other through telegraphs in the bottom screen once you've recruited them into your guild, and they say cute shit sometimes

There isn't a protagonist nor do you get to choose who you start with, this time
It starts with different scenarios of groups doing their own thing, and eventually they meet up, and then the 'protagnist' is whoever you has as your onscreen (or in the #1 party position, it jumps around)
That said you get most of them by the plot, but there are 3 that have relatively simple conditions to be recruited later in the game

From what I'm aware, there's just a standard one and an alternate ending that you can get in NG+ by beating a boss at the beginning of the game in a turn limit that you couldn't feasibly do otherwise

The cinematic cuts have autoscrolling, yeah.
I don't like it either but It's a game for a younger audience anway so the text is fairly easy to read if you're used to japanese, what bothers me is the low resolution which sometimes turns some kanji in a garbled mess.
Unfortunately Scarlet Grace has higher resolution but uses a font that makes some other kanji a bit different from usual so I had the same problem but for different reasons, at least there's no autoscroll in there and cutscenes are like a VN so you can read as much as you like.
