Since when? No really, think about it. The OVA Metal and Comic Metals are known to be reasonably competent to borderline invincible, but in the games, Sonic is always portrayed as easily handing Metal its metallic ass. Not once has Sonic ever been shown to struggle against Metal Sonic.

I feel like people really hype up Metal Sonic too much. Out of all of Eggman's creations, it's nowhere near the top of the rankings. In fact, since about Sonic Unleashed, most of Eggman's machines have pretty much completely surpassed Metal. In terms of combat potential, all his combat vehicles since the start of the "modern" era are superior. And in terms of sophisticated AI, Orbot and Cubot are far more intelligent, even if they do have some personality issues.
