I don't understand the purpose of Helions.

Meh at front line combat.

Gets weaker the longer the fight goes.

If I want the rear units dead I can use Hound Master, Occultist, Bounty Hunter, Grave Robber, Arbalist etc etc..

What buildings should I upgrade first?

So far I'm doing fine but my problem is when I get back to town by the time I'm done getting people in the tavern/church I'm nearly out of money/heirlooms to upgrade anything. I don't think I've ever had more than 10k at any time

Stagecoach to getting 4 heros is the very first thing to get so you can always just get 4 chumps and suicide run them if all else fails.

All buildings are useful, if you learn how to avoid and heal stress you won't need to upgrade the Abbey or Inn very much.
Upgrading armor and ability is easy and cheap.

What I do:

>2 ranks in Stage Coach's Barracks
>1 point in Stage Coach Network
>1 point in Bar and Gambling
>1 point in Cloister and Transept
>1 point in Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing
>2 points in Sanitarium Patient Cells

After that do what you like.

you should consider your team and where you're sending them, the places like ruins have skeletons which cant bleed (obviously) so units that rely on bleed are not so useful. Consider the supplies you take too, for short dungeons just take 12 food 8 torches 1 or (3) shovels. you should be on a lookout for antiquarian cause she can get you from 1k to 30k of gold in one run. also remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer . I'm on my 40 week and by now i have 90k gold and mostly all buildings on >50% so i don't know if this is a pro tip.

Given how most bosses work it's not the worst idea to have 3 arbs.
There's only around 2 bosses that hard counter 2 arb 1 occult 1 whatever (I use flag for even more sustain)

They don't break, but can be stolen as a random event.
You can get them back by killing a certain boss.

I mean guarding only takes one skill slot so you have the mark and rush free to use. The guarding strat makes it so you are fresh as a letuce when entering a boss fight, also you can infinitely grind with one team with zero risk.

The game tells you when that event occurs, although if you don't bother reading the notice then I guess you could lose a bunch of trinkets that way and not notice till later.
