You're not a fan of fps games if you don't recognize pic related.
What went so wrong for the tactical fps?

>You're not a fan of fps games
oh no, I'm not a fan of the blandest genre in existence next to sokoban.
>played AA and completely ignored CS god race
It's even more apparent how correct that choice was all these years later, AA is still the best multiplayer FPS ever made. To answer your question: catering to morons and console players is what went wrong.

What game is this?
>entire team of randoms regularly using the report-in button to avoid friendly fire
>entire team has all the report-in locations memorized
>no idiot proof cancer UI elements like minimaps or teammate indicators
It seems like a fantasy now
>>383375403
That would be 2d platformer.
>>383375320
Is that a mk12? Don't see too many of those in games.
>>383375503
indeed.
it's truly a shame how they butchered it for the console babies.
i've yet to have as much fun as i did playing AA, all these years later.
the void will never be filled.
>>383375403
Don't you dare talk shit about sokoban, you faggot.
>>383375320
>you will never play as the vip again, while your whole team smokes the helipad for your escape.
honestly, just kill me
>>383375713
I think it was also how the mechanics of the game automatically drew in a great community. Limiting the number of people who could select each role probably kept out 90% of the cancer all by itself.
Thanks to this game I joined the Army and died in Iraq. Fucking George Bush

>you will never again give props to someone who snipes you because it actually took skill and there weren't 5 of them on each team ruining the game
>you will never again be bleeding out and in need of a medic who risks his life to save you
>you will never again play in a community that is almost exclusively mature, intelligent players, many of them military veterans
>you will never again play on perfectly crafted maps
>>383376045
agreed
i think also having to earn the different classes, such as marksman, SF, and having to pass the medic exams was an amazing touch to filter out the casuals.
>>383375528
America's Army
>>383376365
yeah, i'm foggy on the training missions but I remember some of them being legitimately difficult.
>>383375696
Explain what makes platformers bland to you.
P.S.: Super Mario games are not the only 2D platformers in existence
I like bombastic colourful fps games like Doom, Timesplitters and Nolf.
>>383375528
Some brown and bland operator operating game. If you've played one you've played them all.
>>383376841
I didn't grew up with them and have no nostalgia about them. That enormous amount of shitty indie doesn't help either.
>>383375503
>AA is still the best multiplayer FPS ever made
WRONG
>>383377596
>>383377861
it's not as good.
it's definitely come the closest to capturing the feel, but it's still not there.
I can see it eventually becoming the rightful successor, though.
>>383378714
I'm 26
What was the name of that woodland mountain map with the 3 objectives?
Had so much fun in it.
The snow map with the oil
Refinery was probably my favorite AA map. I came from playing delta force 2 online so the bump up in graphics was great combined with good gunplay. I think about AA from time to time and what it has become.
>>383375403
That would be JRPG's
>>383376841
They're for kids.
>>383381279
>refinery
is that in proving grounds?
AA stopped being good after version 2.8
i never played proving grounds
