This game is astounding. I don't think I've ever played a game where the atmosphere was so carefully constructed and meticulously considered. I love the slow pacing, the methodical movements....Anyone else know what I mean? I wish there were more games like this. It really feels like they tried as hard as possible to create that deductive noir atmosphere. I even like how, when looking at evidence, Cole handles it very gingerly and softly. I feel bad they spent so much money on this and the studio failed.

Also, that Arson storyline is underrated and amazing. A simple housefire turns into a grand conspiracy with the biggest real estate developer? It's honestly genius.
>>
I remember watching the making of videos they posted on Youtube and to their credit, the Bondi guys had a prop house provide hundreds of era specific props and toiletry items for them to scan and have in the game.

It's too bad we'll never get the spiritual sequel that they were going to work on next, Whore of the Orient.

LA Noire is a shit boring game with too much pointless padding, removing all the driving around and the Not-GTA side missions would've made it a hundred times better game.
Prove me wrong.
You can't.

jesus can a person even hand model a sneeze that well ?

Why don't' they use the facial mo-cap stuff in more games ? I mean yeah sometimes it can look goofy in LA because suspects gotta give you facial queues, but like that sneeze alone looks so fucking real because I'm pretty sure the mo-cap guy actually sneezed...

Watching bestfriends fudd their way through it reminded me how good they can look.

It's mostly because Brenda McNamara never knew how to run a studio. They were bankrupt and Rockstar stepped in and righted the wrong. Brenda also is know for the fuckery that was The Getaway. He ran the studio like 3D realms.
>>
Fuck that, who'd win in a fight: LAMAJ or ERIOIOIRE?
>>
I enjoyed it a lot despite its issues with the interrogation. Also I dislike how often you gotta interpret the facial animations, I would prefer more searching clues and this kind of shit.

I enjoyed it more than GTA IV or V, despite lacking open world content, what LA Noire has was fucking well done. Much better gunplay than both modern GTAs too
>>

PSYCH THEY ALL INNOCENT
>>
>>383334436
I thought it was a cool and original game. 10/10 atmosphere.

The open world was completely wasted though. It was nicely crafted but very empty outside of the story. I was impressed with the facial capture but the women looked terrifying. It was cool and I would love to see more like it but theres things they need to iron out

8/10
>>
I really enjoyed this game, but it had its problems. I hated the ending, I don't care if it's a noire trope. I also thought basically anything between stories was dogshit. The city felt empty as fuck, it was retarded you got penalized for driving erratically in a video game, and it was tedious to drive from point A to B, especially where there were missions where you just stop for a second. Thank god you could have your partner drive to fast travel.
>>
>>383335206
>Whore of the Orient

>>
It was simultaneously a mess and one of the greatest and most ambitious games of last gen. It somehow sold well and Rockstar said they "want to grow the IP" so hopefully in a few years we'll get a sequel without the redundant open world and gunfights, with a better interrogation system and full-body mocap.

The issue is that for all the effort clearly put into the game it falls short of great in some cases and even good in others. Yes, the atmosphere and setting were clearly lovingly crafted but aside from the main story missions were anything.

>>383340695
I would've been fine if you got docked for running people over and breaking the law significantly, but it was way too extreme. Penalizing you for slightly bumping into another vehicle is retarded, especially considering the city was filled to the brim with slow cars and traffic lights. I don't want to spend 30 minutes just to make a trek across the city, that is unfun as fuck.

I will never not be mad that this piece of shit doesn't get what's coming to him even in the epilogue. Let alone the fact that he gets to speak at Cole's funeral as if they were BFFs.
Also the game's last act was blatantly rushed and the game in general reeks of unfinished stuff.
Floyd Rose shit NEVER gets resolved for starters.
Entire Roy plotline basically doesn't get resolved either due to the ending.
Second "MC" comes into play only literally 30 minutes before the game ends and Cole is conveniently absent during that time until he conveniently shows up just in time to die.

Seriously the game is a clusterfuck after Vice and there's blatantly one desk missing (Burglary) that Homicide literally even opens with "Bla bla bla Cole you're getting promoted from Burglarly to Homicide blah blah" mentioning.

LA Noire ACTUALLY-FUCKING-COMPLETE-EDITION never ever, shit fucking hurts.

>The open world was completely wasted though. It was nicely crafted but very empty outside of the story.

Because the game was originally going to have dynamically generated cases, complete with competent voice acting on every case related NPC (think Watchdogs NPC were everyone has a stat/background and that dictates what sort of crime they might commit). That's why Rockstar initially funded it. A quarter into the development, they realized they can't pull it off with the funds they acquired so they just focused on the few hand crafted cases which was what they had for their pitch anyways.

90% of the open-world though was already done so might as well complete it. The tech they used for the random cases was given over to Rockstar per contractual agreement. It's supposedly going to be used on another game.

>That's why Rockstar initially funded it.

That fucking sucks though. I feel like they should have scrapped the idea of Open World early on and just have areas for each place you have to go in an investigation. That would have saved so much time in development and allowed them to really create cases, NPCs and mechanics to really lunch this 7/10 game to a 10/10.

>dynamically generated

I fucking hate when developers use features like that. It sounds great in theory but 95% they just use it so they don't have to work on cases, quests, items and just let a random generator algorithm do it. Same shit with Skyrim and its "radiant quest system".

I'm glad it didn't pan out, it would have made the game worse.

The newspapers showed most of the build up to the finale involving the stolen army issue morphine syringes and how many people got entangled or were connected to the scheme all along. The fires of the Arson desk were connected to the same group of soldiers responsible for stealing the shipment since the one lighting them was a veteran who was on flamethrower duty in Phelps platoon back when they ended up burning a cave full of women and children.

The story was a little spoiled because it showed you that arson came after homicide which is a big old downgrade so we knew something bad was going to happen.

Everything is connected in one way or another to the big federal funding scam, the former soldiers or the serial killer which is great looking back on but lowers replay value.

The interview mechanic was a great idea but poorly executed, even when a crime scene was fully investigated someone could be saying something you know was untrue and they look shifty as hell but they aren't lying. You are supposed to doubt in that case and dig deeper but this creates a situation where there is no reason to not doubt. You go off on a rant and if it was not called for there is no penatly and you just back pedal. Bad mechanic and it ruins immersion.

The elastic band chase scenes were also stupid as hell.
