Not him, but Tomb Raider's levels are specifically designed with tank controls in kind. Croc's level design wouldn't suffer if he had proper controls. They did fix it in 2 though.

Jumping Flash was
1) Like the first 3D platformer ever
2) Had its main gimmick around jumping very very high which made course correction insanely easy, and most of the platforms were fucking huge

Croc, on the other hand, designed its levels like its contemporaries, with tight jumps and tricky platforming challenges that aren't suited for Croc's whole drift-till-you-drop style of movement.

Croc only sold well because its only competition was Spyro the Dragon, and most people already had Spyro and were hoping for more like it with no idea there would be a 2.

Once Ripto's Rage/Gateway to Glimmer came out, Croc got murdered in a dark alley by Tomba, which was a much more superior platformer.

And then was killed in its sleep by Brave Fencer Musashi, as it should have been.

Croc was literally the Glover of the PS1.
