I was one of those guys that constantly shit on Fallout without ever playing them, while at the same time being the biggest fucking TES fanboy. I played NV and I gotta say it was a well above average game. I was playing on console with a roommate and we made a game out of the game freezing so damn much. He "forced" me to try the game, I told him he has to roll a blunt every time the game crashes. I have never been so consistently high for at least a month long in a loooooong time.

Game turned out amazing, weed notwithstanding. We started out NCR moralfags, trying to do the best for the Mojave. Then by the end of the DLCs we realized we were still good guys but had become hardened to the life in the desert. The game effectively broke our pure spirits and we were sliding into the depths of hell. We're about to finish up the main quest so we are doing the 4 houses and at Gamorrah right now and our lust to clean Vegas out of its dregs is getting to a fever pitch.

What was the point of the emotional pulling in the Lonesome Road DLC with ED-E about? when you get back to Lucky 38, he's just there still. We must have reloaded his dialogue wheel at the end 2 or 3 times trying to do the thing without doing the thing to no avail. Then he's just okay and stalking Veronica in the closet when we get back (but with all his upgrades somehow).

It seemed like a cop out after a great DLC.

I don't think a New Vegas-to-F4 port is actually possible, at least not without Obsidian's involvement. The dialog system would need to be rebuilt. The camera for dialog would need a revision because cutting to a silent protagonist is going to get boring fast. The free action for dialog might have to be restored, or certain sequences redone if not possible. To get the skillchecks back in with their hard thresholds and alternate response for failure would also require bringing skills back in, which would mean ripping out the entire perk table and leveling system and rebuilding it on the older model, but who knows how friendly F4's code would be for that? A lot of things seem to have been hardcoded in order to prevent crashes.

Some enterprising modders laid out a general list of needed improvements to make it so you could play Fallout 4 with as much freedom and complexity as New Vegas or even Skyrim and the list was long and contained a hefty number of items to the tune of 'we don't even know if this is remotely possible,' and after CK and F4SE dropped that line of inquiry pretty much went dead.

Anyone else here who enjoys the lore and the discussion more than the game?

I've completed NV a grand total of three times with the last playthrough including all of the DLC (Miles better than the main game if you ask me), and i have completed most quests in those 3 runs

The gameplay is just awful, i swear that Counter-Strike 1.6 has better FPS mechanics than this game, without mentioning that a lot of NV's map is really uninteresting. Is NV bad? I don't think so, however i do think that the story, the lore and the discussions we have here on /v/ wether to praise or shit on FO4/3/NV have been more interesting than my last hours with the game

A lot of people say that NV's threads are the reason many of us reinstall the game, that applies to me too however, 15 minutes in and i remember why i uninstalled it, only to come back here, the part that i enjoy.

Anyone else feels like this?

just the other day when messing about with new charcters I did it like 6 times in a row. it's completely consistent.

the only risk is you may aggro a deathclaw as you pass by, but it's only a risk not a certainty. even if you aggro him, you can run to the nearby raider camp in the destroyed house and they will attack the deathcllaw and draw his aggro so you can run away.
Also if you have the complete edition or justr all dlc in general, you can straight up muscle your way past the cazadors. Set difficulty to the lowest. put on the metal armor and use those handy antivenoms it gives you. you can kill the cazadors and move on

if you actually wanna give this game a good try, i would say form your opinion once reaching new vegas. at that point, you've explored a good deal and have become accustomed with the game. i felt the same way but kept going at it, and it honestly is a good experience. i tried to get two of my friends to play it.

friend 1: said it was too slow and gave up at primm.

friend 2: said he was enjoying it. he was doing a major quest and the item he need wasnt placed in his inventory. he used console commands to do so, then felt as if he cheated; it demoralised him, so he stopped playing.

ive played the game over 100hrs. last time i tried to play my game wouldnt stop crashing :)

as long as u dont encounter any bugs like this, i would say stay strong until u reach new vegas.

I think it is a bad game with redeemable qualities, such as the story.

I actually think that the DLC alone is miles and miles better than the main game, and the DLC is one of the things i go back and replay from time to time because i can't fucking stand how dull the main game is in comparison.

The DLC somehow manages to have competent combat and challenges while still keeping the level (Most of the time being outright better) of quality writing.

If i had to rank the Fallout games it would be like this

In my first playthrough I installed a sprint mod, and the basic version of PN. In my second version I installed the full version of PN and the sprint mod. Turns out they stack, so my character was faster than Usain Bolt, and somehow it also gave me infinite running. It kinda fit, though, I was roleplaying Mary Sue.

I'm lead to believe this is some form of bait thread, but I'll put my New Vegas experience anyways.
1st go: xbox360, make it to like new vegas, quit due to load times and bugs
2nd go: xbox360, beat it with ncr. no dlc. it was ok
3rd go: PC medium amount of mods. quit after meeting caesar (even tho I wanted to be a legion guy)

How do I stick with it? I don't think the game is terrible, but something about it makes it hard to play. I assume its the age mixed with the amount of non-gameplay issues(bugs) plaguing it.

I'm frankly lost when /v/ is enamored with this game. Like I said, the one time I beat it, it was decent, but nothing special.

I did managed to make out to new vegas without following the south road on a new game. Was pretty hard trying to not get detected by the deathclaws but that cliff with the traps near the mutants is extremely useful.

"improvised everything" just doesn't fit nation that is all about "uniformed everything".
Gladius and Lorica Segmentata are crowning achievements of ancient war industry, and I can see them totally be reused should melee combat come back. First is blade that can do about everything (stab, slash, chop) and from behind wall of shields, second is armor custom assembled from premade parts (so cheap and quick to make), that covered what it needs to cover, and saves weight on where shield covers.
None of them was advanced technologically, or even time consuming (compared to other types of arms and armor).
I understant that advanced technology may be lost, but with these all you need is idea, and some basic metalurgy

Crossbows are still pretty strong, not very hard to use, and the bolts are easily reusable. They're also a lot quieter than guns, so they'd be pretty good for sneaky-sneaky and hunting

Legion conscripts don't get guns, because their lifes are less valuable than working gun. Prove your guts and ability to survive, you'll prove yourself worthy of one
