>sell rx 480 8gb for $400
>buy 1050 Ti for $150
>have $250 left to spend on vidya

Should I? I'm at 1080p and don't plan on going higher for a long time and don't mind going from Ultra to a mix of High and Medium settings for games. The 1050 Ti is about 30% faster than the PS4's GPU (but also 30% slower than the rx 480 in games) and it has twice the VRAM as PS4. I just don't know if there's going to be that new PC game that makes me want to play it at max settings in all its glory. The main reason I bought the RX 480 to replace my 7850 was for BF1 and to use high end ENB's in Skyrim but now I know that BF1 can be played at 1080p, 60fps, with high/medium settings on a 1050 Ti and I don't care about ENB's in Skyrim anymore and If I did I could run almost any ENB at capped 30fps 1080p with a 1050 Ti I think.

>makes me want to play it at max settings in all its glory
There aren't.
Honestly I wouldn't even bother getting the toppest of the line GPUs unless you need to get your dick sucked hard on youtube.
By the way what's with all this shit about people buying used 480's. Did something recent happen in bitcoin mining or some shit?
>>
>>383233456
>Did something recent happen in bitcoin mining or some shit?

Yeah, Etherum went up and a lot of AMD cards for whatever reason are extra good at mining it so 290's, 380's, 470's, and 480's got bought up online super fast and new ones are going for absurd prices like $800 - $1,000+ and the used market for 470's and 480's are around $400 - $500 on sites like ebay.
>>
>>383233059
good luck selling that for $400
>>
>>383233741
>cad
>>
>>383233646
Huh so Etherum really wasn't a meme.
Anyway to further answer OP there's not too much worth going super duper high for. My 1050ti is doing fine for the shit I want to do.

They are being bought for around $380 - 500 used on ebay for the last 2 weeks. I honestly have no idea what you're getting at.
>>
>>383233816
etherium is still a meme, yet another crypto hype bubble
>>
>>383235263
Isn't that kinda the point witch crypto shit? It's not supposed to be stable.
>>
>>383233059
I doubt 250$ worth of fun games exist anymore unless you don't already have the older gems.
>>
>>383235929
some of them (including bitcoin and etherium) are meant to be serious platforms
the rest are pump and dump scams
>>
>>383233816
That's reassuring, and yeah, checking out a lot of benchmarks for games it seems like going from RX 480 to 1050 Ti isn't a huge difference at 1080p 60hz as long as you're fine with literally just dropping lighting / shadows / LOD type settings down a bit, with 4GB VRAM you can still use Ultra textures for the most part and get good fps still.
>>
>>383236020
I was actually planning on maybe buying a New 3DS to hack and some PS4 games and a 64gb micro SD for the 3DS. But I'll probably wait until black friday to see if there's a 3DS deal. As far as PC games I pretty much got all I want.

I have a question that might sound retarded. But i got this pc free from a friend, and i was wondering if its worth upgrading. Not to a powerhouse just a notch.
>>
>>383237265
Depends on whether you want to play graphically intensive games or not.
>>
>>383237892
Not a whole lot, but new games are absolutely unplayable even at lowest of the low. Was just thinking of getting mid range gpu

GPU is the least of your problems. CPU is, FX6300 did not age well and is destroyed by Ryzen.
>>
>>383238513
true but can't beat that price
>>
>>383238190
Pop a 1050 in there and youll be good to go
>>
>>383238516
Fuck, well its free and can play classic games well.
>>
>>383237265
Speccy isn't listing the exact r9 200 model but If I had to guess I'd think it was an R9 270 or 270x because that makes the most sense being paired with only 4gb RAM and an fx-6300. It depends on what you want to do with it if it's worth upgrading or not. Since you're only running at 720p it makes things a lot easier on your GPU. If you had to make one upgrade you definitely should have 8gb of ram, and buy 2x4gb sticks of the same kind, it's bad to mix and match different company ram sticks even if they are the same voltage and speeds.

Your GPU is a tiny bit faster than the PS4 GPU for context so you can play games at 1080p with mostly medium settings and your CPU is bare minimum for modern CPU intense games but it's a kinda bad CPU if you plan on emulating PS2 / GameCube or higher. For some newer games like Dark Souls 3 you want to download RivaTuner Statistics to cap your FPS to 30 - 45 or in games that have built in frame cap like Witcher 3 just cap to 30fps. For sure get 8gb RAM (2x4gb) to be safe and to eliminate excess stutter.

Other than that your PC at least makes sense and is balanced, but that also means if you plan on making a real upgrade you probably want to upgrade everything at once. Intel CPU's are a lot better for CPU intense games and MUCH better at emulating PS2 era and above if you're into that.
>>
How shitty is a 1050ti anyways? I need something for a small build I'm doing to travel with. I have a 1080 in my desktop already but I'd rather not pull it out when I need to leave for work for just 1080p gaming.
>>
>>383233646
Wait does this mean I can sell my 380X for some good buck?
Neat, I might be able to buy something better with that money.
>>
>>383238190
Getting a mid range GPU for a good price now is impossible. If I were you I would wait until either the mining bubble bursts of the new generation of cards come out.
>>
>>383238628
Wow, didnt expect all of the help. Yeah i might do that just because im in no position to build a new rig.

A 1050 would not be an upgrade to a r9 270. Even a 1050 Ti is only upwards of 15-20% faster than a 270.
>>
>>383238869
for future
>>
>>383238750
Yup, I think their selling for around the same pice as 480's even because they're more or less just as good for mining and all the miners are the ones buying.
>>
>>383233456

how have you not heard of this

>>383233741

god i cant even imagine being this fucking out of the loop
>>
>>383233059

definitely do it, but i might bump up to a 1060 or even if you can find a decent deal on a 1070 (i think they're only around $350 nowadays), vastly superior card for gaming

funny that you say you replaced your 7850 with the 480, i had a radeon 7850 and sold it for like $350 when bitcoin mining with ATI GPUs drove the price of those cards up and ended up getting some new nvidia card to replace it.

if you've got one of these cards it's pretty much a free upgrade when shit like this happens.

unrelated question to people in the thread - is eth mining that easy/that profitable right now? or is this similar to bitcoin mining taking off back when it was like $13.5 USD:1 BTC where it was better to get an ASIC or you had to join a mining pool
>>
Any recommendations? I only play at 1440p can get a stable 60-50 with an overclock in BF1 in 4k

how the fuck is BF1 this poorly optimized that you can't even push 4k/60fps with a 1080
>>
>>383239089
>is eth mining that easy/that profitable right now?

With my extremely limited understanding of it the simple answer is no. Unless you get free or near free electricity and have double / quad RX 470 / 480 setups running 24/7 you won't make shit. The smart, and somewhat already rich, people doing this correctly are buying land in the desert and running on solar with tens or maybe even hundreds of shacks running RX 480 mining rigs. Also places like China were the government pays for your electricity are were it's actually worth it for individuals to mine. That's what I've heard anyways, could be totally wrong. Crypto currency might as well be magic to me.

Just use userbenchmarks and click on compare and select GPU's. The 1070 is a much better GPU and a much better deal.

Sounds like a good deal, as long as GPU prices go back to normal within the next 2 or 3 years
>>
>>383237265
Get another 4GB stick or a 8GB dual kit RAM
Grab a 2TB HDD for storage
Upgrade to windows 10 for DX12 and a small performance boost
Enjoy playing video games, it can easily play games at high settings 60fps at that resolution, about medium settings at 1080p
>>
>>383238516
It shouldn't have problems with most games
Not all will reach a stable 60fps, but they will remain very playable
The main problem is likely the 4GB RAM

Not really true
It still matches the G4560 in most modern games

Will this inflatation end finally? This is fucking sad how much gpus cost now
>>
>>383241993
Do you know anything about pc games? that video benchmarked 6 game and ALL of them have the gpu running at 100%, so both the g4560 and fx6300 are limited to the gpu speed that's why they have the exact same FPS.

Watching this benchmark genuinely made me angry how can someone be so stupid to upload a video like this
>>
>>383238190
>>383233059
1050 ti is such a shit. Its just newer 750ti
>>
>>383238745
It's basically the same performance of a 960. you can play almost anything except the very latest games at 1080p medium/high settings
>>
>>383242351
Well it isn't that bad if you're on a budget, 1060 is still better choice if its not affected by the price hikes
>>
>>383242330
Normies usually just look at the bright side, it doesn't matter how much usage the cpu/gpu is when game runs just fine

>>
>>383243805
the G4560 is going to be about 20% faster than the fx-6300 in most games, but there are some games that take advantage of 4 physical cores better despite the 6300 having bad single core performance. All in all the G4560 is better but if you already have a 6300 then it's not really worth the "upgrade" to a G4560.
