Now that the dust has settled can we admit this wasn't all that bad?
yeah it wasn't that bad
it was fucking terrible
>>383217770
Not that bad sure, for about 5 mins before you realize its beyond fucking bad
>>383217770
After a few patches that added content, yeah, it's a decent exploration game. At launch it was terrible.
There's no win condition in this """"game"""". It's like a quarter of a full game but they ran out of money so they shipped it like this.
>brag to my friend about how he won't be able to play it on Xbox
>buy the game day one and return it after 2 hours
>next day he just laughs at me
I've never felt so humiliated in my life
>>383217770
It wouldn't have been if fuckface Sean Murray didn't Molyneux the shit out of it and was honest upfront.
desu the game seemed sketch from the beginning
I still enjoy it, I agree it's a terrible game but it reminds me of something like Outer Wilds or Space Engine where you can relax and have a bit of exploration. The atmosphere and the music can be top notch at times.
reminds me of starbound
>you have to use the melee-jet pack move to get anywhere reasonably fast
>mining is hilariously tedious and the landscape does not even stay changed at a distance resulting in walking to a gold pile and then it suddenly disappearing.
>ship prices ludicrously inflated
>economy is garbage ruled by lemmite
>story is a fucking mess
>space combat is a fucking mess
>you can't even actualy fly your ship on the planet
It was bad. I tried to have fun with it and it's just not possible.
>>383218586
>I agree it's a terrible game but I still play it because le comfy game :3
No hyperbole, you are he kind of person who's ruining games. Please get some higher standards. There are plenty of better "atmospheric" games out there than scams made by literal con artists.
>>383218212
>no win condition
So Diablo clones and city simulators aren't games either?
>>383218420
this, if they hadn't hailed it as the second coming of christ it probably wouldn't have been hated on so hard. plus it was too fucking expensive
>>383218975
>>you can't even actualy fly your ship on the planet
wut
>>383219042
Diablo clones have final bosses. The point of city sims is to simulate a city (you start small and turn your shitty rural town into a city--continued play is up to you but you've fucking won the game by that point).
Reddit hates this game
You know what to do /v/, you fucking idiots
>>383219003
I bought it from a bargain bin, what the fuck do you want you autist lmao
>>383219302
Shits essentially on rails. You can't fly down or even do inverted flight. It's the worst "flight" I've ever seen in a game that spends that much time in a spacecraft. It handholds you to the point of it being a fucking burden.
>>383218246
>return it after 2 hours
Why though? It's not a bad game, it's just not what it was made out to be.
I feel like you are just saying this retroactively to fit in with the meme
>>383219560
That's....really odd.
>>383219507
>Reddit hates this game
they fucking defended it you idiot
>>383219507
Shut up nerd
>>383219669
Your choices on a planet are go left, go right, speed boost, initiate auto landing, or point ship up to leave.
>>383219363
Diablo clones have bosses, and often have some story with bosses that reside somewhere in that story, but they definitely don't have final bosses. Nobody beats (e.g.) Malachai and then says "well I guess that's the end of the Path of Exile." As for city simulators---you might almost say, sandbox games are about defining your own objectives.
>>383217770
You're just one dude saying no man's sky (a shit game) is good to get a rise out of the /v/ hivemind
>>383219815
Again that's really odd, I wonder why they couldn't have just kept the space flight model for the atmospheric flight model
It was incredibly mediocre
Hopefully one day it will be good after enough updates. They've actually done a decent job with them so far
>>383219908
Most likely either because their shit playtesters felt it was too hard to control or their collision models were so bad they figured the only way to fix it was to make it literally impossible to run into the planet.
A decent exploration game absolute ruined by internet memery and Sony marketing. Absolute shame, but then again it seems Hello Games are enjoying their greatly reduced playerbase as they work on improving it for the people that actually enjoy it.

sure, pal
it needs a proper survival mode
and harsher biomes
>>383220274
You fell for the bait now he gets to call you a Redditor and say that he didn't know because he doesn't visit Reddit
>>383220274
>post made 2 months after launch
you know they jumped on the bandwagon as soon as they felt the heat right?
>>383220409
It has survival mode though?
>>383220498
needs hunger, thirst and exhaustion
base building and all the other automatic support shit makes game too easy
>>383219630
anon please, it's a fucking terrible game when Space Engine, a space exploration game coded by a single russian, is better than nu-male's sky
>>383221253
Don't life support and the stamina bar kind of already cover that? Not to mention elemental protection.
>>383219042
The funny part is Will Wright had trouble finding a publisher for the original SimCity because of a lack of a win condition.
I thought it was a below average tech demo
>>383217770
This was the worst game I've ever played
>>383218212
Sooo Elite dangerous is not the game either. Or DCS.
>>383221327
Noo its not, not at all, there is no game in space engine whatsoever, all you can do is put camera behind ship and fly for a bit (still important frame for future game maybe), however i would love to have something resembling NMS in spsace engine just more serious.
>>383217867
Sean Murray wouldnt like you
>>383217770
It has some alright stuff going for it.
But it gets really boring really quick.Pirated, I have regrets.
>>383217770
Im playing it for "aesthetic screenshot simulator".
>>383224818
>>383224915
>>383225006
I wouldn't be surprised if the gaming community ends up having funded r&d on the "NMS procedural generative engine", which makes Mr. Murray a wealthy man.
I can imagine people who never heard of the 2.5 years of consumer & media hype would find some enjoyment out of this game.
It's how i first played Spore.
I played this game on acid with a few friends and it was one of the best nights I've had in my life. I mean it actually changed who I was as a person. After that it was just boring as all fuck. Those first few hours trick you and make you think you're going on this epic spiritual journey in space but after a while you're just farming shit to get bigger ships and crashing on boring, samey planets.
>>383226201
Ya know, spore was actually pretty good. Nowhere near as expansive as the E3 trailers and demos made it out to be, but still pretty good. It still captured that 'single cell organism to galactic overlord' story arc really well.
>>383226201
I remember battling in youtube comments that this game will not have multiplayer, planet size is not gonna be nowhere near real sized planets, that black hole is gonna be some stupid portal, there wont be Newtonian flight model, or orbits or real sized systems... I remember ppl got sooo fucking hyped they started adding features to this game in their heads (muray didnt help) and while I knew this is gonna be nowhere near as perfect, i can still play this from time to time, granted its at least playable with updates now.
