Been playing Wild Arms 2. I don't like how disjointed the game's story is. Are the other Wild Arms games like this or should I stop here?
I liked 1, 2 and 3
>>383209609
They're all pretty good, honestly. But the first three are definitely the best.
>>383209609
>I don't like how disjointed the game's story is.
It all comes together, trust me.
>>383209609
2's story gets better as it goes on, but the translation is notoriously bad. Stick with it.
>>383209609
I want to _____ Ashley
2 also suffered from a TERRIBLE translation that did not help the already fragmented story. Liz and Ard make no actual sense at any point. 1 and 3 are fucking great.
>>383209609
The story for 2 is amazing, but the translation is trash, so you have to do most of the thinking yourself.
Wild Arms 3 is probably the greatest game ever made, desu
>>383209609
Every time I try playing this game I get bored right around the time when this faggot shows up and end up not picking it up again.
Why has no one done a fan-translation for this?
Since we're having a Wild ARMs thread, just curious, how is 5? It's the only one in the series I haven't touched. 4 was just so bad I couldn't bring myself to try 5.
>>383216420
You don't like that tight boipussy with mcdonald's shoes on?
>>383216882
It's...kind of phoned in, to be honest. Like 4 but with less interesting characters and plot.
>>383209609
What >>383216117 said. Wild ARM2 is mother fucking fantastic....but the translation/localization sucks so much ass it's ass-to-ass ass. Also, you have to completely disregard everything you learned about Filgaia in the first game.
Wild ARMs 1/Alter Code F are pretty good. 3 is quite possibly in my top 5 JRPGs on the PS2. 4 is vomit, and 5 is a love letter to the world.
If you want a FFT-like game, then check the PSP XF title.

More like I don't like what comes out of his mouth. >Adults waaaaah.
>They're mean waaaaah.
>They're the reason wars exist waaaaaah.
Every fucking time he opens his mouth. Which is a hell of a lot, since on top of all the dialog in town, they start a long fucking conversation every time you enter a new room in a dungeon. And it's always about those no good mean adults and their poo poo wars and how kids are the best! God it's fucking annoying.
>>383217610
Welcome to jrpgs. They're all written by manchildren.
>>383217610
>"Adults are mean"
>"they're the reason wars exist wahhhh"
>ends up becoming a child vampire's slave in the end
kek
The problem with Wild Arms 2 is how fucked up the translation is. It doesn't make any sense.
>>383216882
Ignore >>383217085, he's an idiot.
>>383217856
This is the problem. I get a lot of mixed signals whenever I ask this question. I suppose it's about time I saw for myself.
>>383217856
Nice reasoning. It killed the series, m8. I mean..I can see that they were aiming lower with the really simplistic style and the naruto-esque visuals, but it aimed a little TOO low in the end.
Make sure this thread hits 437 replies.
/v/ needs to slow down so threads like this exist for more than 30 minutes.
Wild Arms 2 is good stuff, stick with it, the pace evens out.
Is this the jrpg where you become a kamen rider and the battle theme changes to a kickass theme if you do? Or am I thinking of Grandia 2?
>>383219472
Fuck yeah it is.

Wild Arms 2 was the best in the franchise. It sorely needed an editor who wasn't ESL though. The translation itself is fine, but the editing fucking sucks.
>>383219604
shit was rad as fuck
>>383219604
Make way for the best version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhLfLUtBZA4
I always wish they had done a Alter Code F style remake for 2 as well. This shit begged to be in glorious 3D
God damn I miss Wild Arms.
>JRPGs will never be the premier genre of vidya ever again.
Late 90s you will be missed.
I'm just going to dump what little I have on this computer.
Anyway, OP, stick with it. It comes together pretty quickly and is well worth the wild ride.
>>383219792
>all those nearly-incomprehensible literal transcriptions in Liz and Ard encounters
Liz' speech about word violence was hilarious, but holy fuck yes. That was some of the worst shit I've seen in a "professional" RPG translation.
There were a lot of random fuckups in spelling and grammar, and even some incomplete dialogues IIRC too. There hardly was anything you could really consider "editing."
>>383219960
This is fucking sick.
>>383218062
It didn't kill the series m8, it was the END of the series. No more Wild ARMs games were planned after 5. That's the reason why every single protag in the series makes an appearance in 5 including subquests of these guest characters based on events in their respective games. The characters were both well-writ and well-designed - playable, enemy AND the NPCs.
The "Demon" story featured in 1 & 3 received an interesting twist in 5. I will freely admit that I saw the ending coming a mile away, but then I played a metric fuckton of JRPGs back then so not much could outright surprise me. The battle system takes everything that was boring as all fuck in 4 and makes it engaging, entertaining and occasionally challenging (especially when the game stacks the hex-grid against you but still leaves you enough wiggle room to strategize how you're gonna overcome that enemy).
Music is fucking awesome. Graphics are fantastic. The overworld is no longer just this map to walk on - it's a full overworld. The Golem is actually USEFUL for more than walking through shallow water.
The MC is a typical dreamer kid who actually shows growth by learning that his ideals ain't worth shit and how to overcome learning that everything he knew was a fucking lie. It has a character named Elvis. It has multi-faceted enemies who you actually feel bad for having to fight and who have reasons for their actions that you can agree with if it weren't for their ramifications.
That better for you, m8?
>>383216882
5 is a pretty great farewell to the franchise. Lots of references and shit to previous games. You can unlock armor that makes Deen look like Knight Blazer
>>383220527
The whole album is fantastic. Have another

>>383220367
To be fair Liz and Ard werealiens who speak really wacky even in Japaneseso that's a little more intentional.
Then you get the retards who think Brad was gay because the dialogue for one his scenes was borderline incomprehensible.

>>383220730
Well there's always this... http://www.siliconera.com/2016/12/06/wild-arms-getting-brand-new-game-smartphone-featuring-series-characters/#PkEGebApaBjqb0F4.16
Think it's vaporware at this point though
Also Symphogear is done by the creator of Wild Arms and is full of references. And it's actually a decent show
I recommend it
>>383221126
About as important to the series as Breath of Fire "VI"
>>383221254
Which is why I'm hoping it's vapor ware.
>>383220527
The other album is also great

You DO realize that Naruto started in 1997, back when the first game was released, and the entire series has used an anime-styling for their characters. Right? I mean, you're not that dumb are you.
So where can I get all the Wild Arms games? Will I have to emulate, or can I buy them on PSN or something? Truthfully I've never tried the series, and I'm not a big fan of RPGs, but I always am willing to give each one a shot since sometimes I see a diamond in the rough.
how would a fan describe the games? Are the characters likable? Is the story dark and brooding, or light and comedic? Do the games have a tendency of throwing filler at you? Do you kill a god at any point? Are there any black sheep of the series? Are there any waifus?
And now I'm going to go download WA3 off PSN and see how it players. Stick with 2 OP, you won't regret it.
>>383216882
WA5 had the most annoying characters in the franchise aside from Rebecca. I had trouble not stopping and fapping to her every 15 minutes.
1-3 were best tho family
>>383209609
As other say, the story comes together in the end, but the translation does it no favors.
WA3 is pretty slick, I played WA2 first so its special to me, but WA3 is objectively better in nearly every respect.
Probably one of the most important things is that WA3 combat is so much faster, WA2 combat is soooooo slow, and when one of the characters abilities literally go tell you to go grind a shitton of monsters to learn it gets tedious quick.
Oh and Twilgiht Venom was pretty fun if you're a Wild Arms fan.
>>383221548
1 and 2 or on PSN for PS3/Vita/PSP. 3 has a PSN port on PS4 that includes trophies. 4 and 5 you'll have to emulate. I recommend undubs for 4 and 5. XF is a SRPG spinoff for PSP you can emulate/pirate easily enough.
>>383221724
ah shit i remember this animu. it was bad.
>>383221939
Definitely, just like the Arc the Lad anime, but it was still fun enough
Wild Arms 3 is currently $9 on PSN. Do I need to play the previous 2? Is it random battles and generic turn based battles?
>>383223528
No you don't need to play previous. It is random battles but you can use a resource to cancel out the battle before it starts, and slowly regain that resource back over time. Battles are turn based, but not really generic. There's enough freedom in assigning skills/magic and the battles are really fast paced.
Wildarms XF best wild arms.
>>383224332
I don't wholly agree with this, but it was better than expected
>>383223528
It is turn based, but with a few slight modifications. Like Skies of Arcadia, all characters on screen are mock-battling so it's never a static "everyone standing around like retards". Also similar to Skies of Arcadia are the "ship" battles, where you assign different party members to different aspects of your very own sand barge to take on giganto beasts on the sands. Sadly, SoA does it a lot better. Finally are the horseback battles, which tend to work like the typical battles except everyone is on horseback. Oh, and then there's when you get your very own dragon and that fun sub-quest where you shoot down alien invaders.
Ad far as playing past games, it's not necessary, but a lot of references will be lost without prior knowledge. It's not needed, so it's more of a geek thing.
And like the previous anon said, the battles are random, though you are usually given a warning that a battle is approaching and, if you have enough "tokens", you can opt out of fighting. Keep in mind though that if you do this too much and you miss out on too much leveling, the game will force you into battles you won't be fully equipped for. It's best to only skip battles when you're in the middle of a puzzle, when it's coming up too often and annoying you, or when you're traversing dangerous ground.

Thank you for answering my questions.
>>383209609
3 is the high-water mark of the series.
>>383209609
Wild arms games are written like animes with multiple arcs. That said 2 is the one that loops back into its themes the most and has the best story overall. 3's a fan favorite, but that might be ps2 success talking. 2's early game is just kinda bad, but I think you can say that of all the WAs.
>>383223528
PSN version is still busted last I checked.
