At least 10 had detours and other things to do. 13 had literally fucking nothing from start to finish, just walk forwards and kill enemies. Not that 10 was good anyway, shit story full of plot convenience, unlikable, bitchy, unnecessary main character and just generally shit characters all around. Auron and Jecht were the only redeeming characters. Auron because he was an old bad ass and Jecht because he emotionally and physically abused Tidus.

As far as JRPGs go it's not bad. But compare it to (at least your/most people's favorite iterations of) FF and it's not outstanding whatsoever. And when you consider the hype which it completely failed to deliver on.

This was a new low.

There has been some pretty dumb shit in Final Fantasy games up until now.
But nothing in the franchise history has ever been this disjointed, arbitrary and pointless.
Nothing in the entire narrative makes any sense whatsoever looking back.
The heroes could've done nothing and the world would've been fine. The heroes could've died in any and especially the final encounter and the world would've been fine. The one thing that was meant to doom the world - killing the bad guy - turns out - if the heroes just believe in themselves and read the script for what to do next at the last moment - the world is also just going to be fine.

Why does this game exist? It's not just the combat that plays itself, the story also literally doesn't require any actions from the player or the characters.

I just finished FFXV for the first time and although it was a little short, it was leagues better than the abomination called FFXIII.

I got to Gran Emptylands in FFXIII and after meeting a robot, which I suspect was an optional boss considering it's strength, I put down the controller and said no more.

FFX had Tidus as a convenient person to explain to, while FF13 was full of pseudo-french terms that the characters just threw around. At some points, the characters just stated a word and got all spooked up, ready for battle. It was stupid.
