This is what I loved the most about it, some of the shortcuts were genuinely tough to pull off, so much so than even experienced players would often miss them, so whenever I was playing with friends and one of them decided to go for a particularly tough shortcut it was always one of those "oh shit the madman is actually going for it" moments.

Send video, also, mastering mechanics and taking glitch shortcuts are two different things in my book. There was that thing that MK8 had that got removed which I thought shouldn't have been even though that was 'unintended' but allowed people who were skilled enough to master that mechanic to go faster, anyone willing to learn how to do that in MK8, or CTR, should be rewarded with faster times. Circumventing track parts doesn't add to anything.

In my opinion the big shortcuts aren't that bad, since it's not as easy to get them in 2P than it is in time trial. You might have lost speed earlier due to an item, or you can drop an item to block a shortcut in many cases, f.ex. in Papu's Pyramid. If you're playing arcade, bots might fuck you up in the shortcuts where you have to drive backwards.
Often these big shortcuts also carry an appropriate risk if you happen to fall down, sending you back like 10 seconds and taking away your turbo stacks

There's 4 different car types, and they feel pretty different. You have the all around, one with higher acceleration but lower turn, the ones with huge top speed but smaller turn and acceleration (which are usually the best when mastered considering you can drift in a straight line easier) and the babby tier vehicles where you have easy turning but low speed. Getting plat relics with the lower top speed characters like Polar/Puar is a pain in the ass. Good luck doing N. Oxide trials with them too.

Can't argue with that, it's probably my least favorite aspect of the single player. Still, it only happens about 4 times, and once you're done with them, you don't have to bother with it anymore.

DKR also had repetitive bosses, you even have to race each one multiple times, but at least all the bosses you race in this game, excluding Oxide are unlockable and only done once.

Better controls and drifting, fixed up lots of aspects of the formula, has more character variety and even some unlockable stages, much more to do with both Single Player and Multi player, and far less tedious than the story mode for DKR, which was another big bonus.

It had such good tracks, music, and controls, but I cant tell you how many hours I sunk into that game, and how many times something would happen like falling out of the stage, coming out of an All-Star and being stuck under the stage, only to continuously fall to my death as it doesn't put me on the right part of the stage, etc.

I don't know if it's what I get for using NiGHTS so much.

Way too common and lasts for a long time. Making it slightly more rare and reducing the duration a bit and it would be fine.

Acceleration is really good in CTR and they work on every map unlike Tiny and Dingo. There's a reason speedrunners use them.

Is acceleration really that broken? I tried using type Bs before and I never was able to go faster than I could with type As.

Something that really boggled my mind when playing CTR as a kid is how I always took longer than the opponents to fall down to the ground after being hit by an explosive.

Like, when I hit an AI racer with a rocket for example, they fly up in the air, then bounce once or twice off the ground for 2 seconds and are already back on their wheels to continue racing. Whenever I got hit, I'd bounce like 30 fucking times before being able to continue. I always thought there was some sort of secret mechanic that allowed me to bounce less whenever I got hit, like how you jump repeatedly to get rid of TNT boxes, but I never got any results when pressing buttons after getting hit by something.
Was it autism?
