This is what I loved the most about it, some of the shortcuts were genuinely tough to pull off, so much so than even experienced players would often miss them, so whenever I was playing with friends and one of them decided to go for a particularly tough shortcut it was always one of those "oh shit the madman is actually going for it" moments.

>b-but you just can't do them, git gud f-faggot

now if Vicarious Visions were to remake CTR, what are they're going to do about the Trophy sisters?
>>383057064

>>383056754
Send video, also, mastering mechanics and taking glitch shortcuts are two different things in my book. There was that thing that MK8 had that got removed which I thought shouldn't have been even though that was 'unintended' but allowed people who were skilled enough to master that mechanic to go faster, anyone willing to learn how to do that in MK8, or CTR, should be rewarded with faster times. Circumventing track parts doesn't add to anything.
>>383056942
You literally asked the question "I guess fighting games are boring?" in response to me saying I don't like Quake. My answer is, the two have nothing to do with one another, so any kind of gotcha moment you're attempting to get from my answer is null and void, as my opinion on fighting games is entirely unrelated to anything I have to say about Quake.
By the way, here: https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2013/oct/28/myth-busted-street-fighter-2s-lead-game-designer-says-cancelling-wasnt-bug/

Second and third lap on that vid.
In my opinion the big shortcuts aren't that bad, since it's not as easy to get them in 2P than it is in time trial. You might have lost speed earlier due to an item, or you can drop an item to block a shortcut in many cases, f.ex. in Papu's Pyramid. If you're playing arcade, bots might fuck you up in the shortcuts where you have to drive backwards.
Often these big shortcuts also carry an appropriate risk if you happen to fall down, sending you back like 10 seconds and taking away your turbo stacks
>>383057064
Make them have less BIG eyes.
>>383057854
>My answer is, the two have nothing to do with one another,
That is not an answer, it is an excuse not to answer. You don't want to talk about arena FPS so I turned the attention to the other major genre that did benefit from programming oversights.
You continue to refuse to answer the actual question, and I suspect that's because you have no answer.
>By the way, here
That isn't a gotcha either.
>After implementing that leniency, we discovered a side effect: It became possible to execute specials after hitting with normals.
>We thought this was quite interesting, and it didn't seem to cause any bugs, so we decided it could be a feature to expand the gameplay.
>It wasn't something we anticipated, but since we decided to incorporate it into the game during development, I wouldn't call it a bug.
The core point remains constant. Cancels were not intentionally programmed in - they just happened to occur as a side effect and they rolled with it anyway.
>>383051192
>All the character play exactly that same
There's 4 different car types, and they feel pretty different. You have the all around, one with higher acceleration but lower turn, the ones with huge top speed but smaller turn and acceleration (which are usually the best when mastered considering you can drift in a straight line easier) and the babby tier vehicles where you have easy turning but low speed. Getting plat relics with the lower top speed characters like Polar/Puar is a pain in the ass. Good luck doing N. Oxide trials with them too.
>Retarded game modes like the crystal collection.
Can't argue with that, it's probably my least favorite aspect of the single player. Still, it only happens about 4 times, and once you're done with them, you don't have to bother with it anymore.
>Shitty, repetitive bosses
DKR also had repetitive bosses, you even have to race each one multiple times, but at least all the bosses you race in this game, excluding Oxide are unlockable and only done once.
>Literally a clone of Mario Cart but worse
Better controls and drifting, fixed up lots of aspects of the formula, has more character variety and even some unlockable stages, much more to do with both Single Player and Multi player, and far less tedious than the story mode for DKR, which was another big bonus.
>>383037015

Probably the only thing I disliked about that game. It had such good tracks, music, and controls, but I cant tell you how many hours I sunk into that game, and how many times something would happen like falling out of the stage, coming out of an All-Star and being stuck under the stage, only to continuously fall to my death as it doesn't put me on the right part of the stage, etc.
I don't know if it's what I get for using NiGHTS so much.

Something that really boggled my mind when playing CTR as a kid is how I always took longer than the opponents to fall down to the ground after being hit by an explosive.
Like, when I hit an AI racer with a rocket for example, they fly up in the air, then bounce once or twice off the ground for 2 seconds and are already back on their wheels to continue racing. Whenever I got hit, I'd bounce like 30 fucking times before being able to continue. I always thought there was some sort of secret mechanic that allowed me to bounce less whenever I got hit, like how you jump repeatedly to get rid of TNT boxes, but I never got any results when pressing buttons after getting hit by something. Was it autism?

I think how fast you're going makes a difference. You also get a free boost when landing if you time it right so it's not that big a deal.
The trophy's miiine!

Activision said that crash was doing really well and they might release other stuff down the line.
Than people remembered that CTR exists.
I actually want to play online with you guys but i don't know how.

HERE'S A DOOZY
This was the character that was supposed to kill the series.

I always played Pinstripe
It helps that he had the best stats too (aside from bugged Penta but I'm not a eurocuck)

I agree. this game blows any other out of the water.

You'll take his potions and you'll like it.

I could make a pre-packaged Mednafen with the game (with everything unlocked), bios and everything configured like those Advance Wars netplay threads a year ago if there's enough interest in it.

My forearms hurt. They don't make games this difficult anymore. Normies are gonna get destroyed when the remaster comes out.

It was the best for its time , but it isn´t the best anymore.
That title goes to MK8D

Nigga I boosted at every single opportunity, grazing fucking walls. Granted I fucked up some turns but I haven't played it in years.
For every Crash Thread
>>383076894
N. Sane trilogy turned out pretty faithful to the original aside from the pill but I can see how recreating a racing game's physics would be harder than a platformer like Crash.
One of my favorite racers. Didn't have power ups on the track like traditional kart racers do though.

hard mode in ctr is a joke if you're even remotely good at powersliding.
GET READY TO FACE FOR THE FATE OF YOUR PLANET
>>383091694
Well original crash games all they had to do was get jumps right, ctr is a lot more complicated and there are a lot of little physics quirks that not many people know about.
