Well yeah. Like I said, I'm not good enough to read anything yet, so it's tons of hard work with no payoff. The only thing I have to track my progress is anki numbers, but since new kanji are introduced just as fast as I finally learn the old kanji, it feels like there's no progress being made there. In another few months, you can at least read children's books, so you have SOMETHING tangible to show your progress.
