Can someone give me a better understanding of how the weapon durability system works?

If the memes are real, and weapons really do break after a few hits and you can't repair them, I think I will pass on the game. This shit really ruined Silent Hill Origins for me.

Weapons last for one or two battles on average, it varies. Some early game weapons tend to be improvised and therefore have garbo durability (e.g. tree branches, pitchforks, farming hoes, etc.). Later weapons last longer.
Last hit before breaking is always a critical, which stuns enemies for longer.
Most enemies drop melee weapons, some drop ranged, little are unarmed.
You cannot repair regular weapons, though there are 4 champion weapons that you could repair, though it's kind of a waste of time since you'll probably have a collection of good weapons by that time.

Whole game you just fluctuate between getting 1 hit killed and getting 3 hit killed, and the enemy health gets ridiculous when you start getting 50 damage weapon drops like candy.
