Is there a strategy video game that comes close to the beautiful complexity of chess?

chess isn't solved, though
Starcraft

It's close enough. Human vs human it's nothing more than memorization which takes absolutely no skill.
>>382997297
it's getting dangerously close.

what is skill
>>382997425
Something that nobody has but me. Anyone who beats me only used cheese or the game just wasn't built fairly.

Identifying the situation is the only thing that might be considered a skill at best. Chess takes no mechanical skill, a fucking cripple could play it.
You are literally just replaying old games over and over again.

>Chess takes no mechanical skill
but that's a good thing
>>382997695
That's debatable.
>>382997362
Untrue. There are 16 possibilities for the first white move, and 16 possible responses for the first black move. The number of possibilities would make memorization beyond the opening impossible in 99.9999% of games.
>>382997407
Actually, it's not. The most powerful chess AI in the world was beaten a couple years ago, ironically, by a non-master who just plugged and chugged until he memorized how to beat the AI, given it would make the same move as a response to the same situation every time. We'll need quantum computing and maybe more to solve chess.

>The number of possibilities would make memorization beyond the opening impossible in 99.9999% of games
You really think people actually think about what moves to make instead of regurgitating old games?
Not even going to touch the second part, it's too funny how you make your argument irrelevant.
>>382997407
I can almost taste it.
>>382997362
Perhaps the same could be said of all games

Backpedal into a vague and questionable statement
>>382997732
Sure but it's chess' shtick so it's dumb to complain about it.

Being close and being solved changes literally nothing. Grandmasters are just replaying games already played out by other grandmasters.
