I think just getting the hang of three or four different Unite Forms should be enough to get you through the game. My first playthrough I mainly relied on Sword, Hammer, Fist and Bomb and occasionally used other forms for context sensitive stuff or if I knew enemies were weak to a particular morph.
It's like Bayonetta where the depth is optional. If you want to get through the game, you can just learn a little bit of the mechanics and get through the game just fine. However, once you start replaying on higher difficulties or going for good ranks there's a large amount of depth for you to sink your teeth into.
Hero Time will help things a lot as well.

My retarded fantasy that I always go to when listening to Tables Turn is the Wonderful 101 pulling some sort of shenanigans that gives every person on the planet a temporary wonder mask and deputises them as honorary Wonderful Ones.
The Red says something neat about the alien invaders having to contend with "the Wonderful Seven Billion, Three Hundred and Forty Seven Million, Eight Hundred and Twenty Six Thousand, One Hundred...and One!" or something along those lines that actually makes sense because there's three extra zeroes in a billion that I don't know how to word.
Then instead of a long final attack name, it's just Red calling out "Unite Earth!" and everyone on the planet joins in a giant morph.
I have this fantasy every time because I would rather immerse myself in fantasy than engage with reality on a regular basis.

Wiimote was such a good match for Pikmin I imagine using the joycon gestures to draw and summon the different unite morphs would be an effective control scheme. The accuracy of a glass touchscreen while playing handheld mode would work way better than the Wii U gamepad.
Of course those control gimmicks are all crutches until you're able to make morphs with the right stick besides sword.
The HD rumble would make it feel like you're handling an ant farm full of heavy ants. Every time your heroes get hit and fall to the ground you'd feel every plink like rain drops on an umbrella.

Except it isn't. It works really well with the rest of the game. Letting you draw different sizes for different weapons with one stick, rather than having them dedicated to shortcuts that makes things so much smoother. Besides, there's strategy involved in what direction you draw and how large you choose to make the line. It's pretty neat once you think about it.

Like, Wonder Falcon would be a variant on Unite Hand that's as slow and powerful as Hammer (because that's how Falcon Punch is in Smash). Wonder Fox would have some sort of Unite Gun variant that's red with fire, while Wonder Falco would have a blue/lightning Unite Gun.
