global warming happened and killed humanity

ten thousand years later aquatic species evolved to take over the now empty land mass. At first everything was great but eventually global warming kicked in again and they were running out of space so the octarians and squids had a war for the surface. Squids won and forced the octarians to live underground.

Octarians were fine down there for awhile but eventually they ran out of power and came to the surface and stole electricity fish from the squids who were just using it for dance parties. Squids got pissed and sent an agent down to murder thousands of octarians and captured their leader.
