Hard to say since they're all so different. X is turn based perfection, X-2 has the best ATB system, LR is a bit weird for a FF game, but works really well. XV is just unbalanced style over substance garbage, even more than other FFs.
XIVs combat isn't amazing, but when it works it works and at this point it's probably the best FF since IX, at elast it has the best optional content ever

XV was shit and made me loose hope in ever having a good AAA turn based Final Fantasy ever again. FF7 remake is going to suck hard because I bet you anything they're going to use the exact same shit combat as XV.

They had the blueprint laid out in front of them, I played KH and KH 2 Final Mix and loved both, how did they manage to screw it up so bad? No. I started a new save in XV at least 4 times, and 2 out of those 4 were over 60 hours of gameplay. That shit just isn't any fun unless you artificially nerf yourself or stop using potions. Not to mention it taking months to add something as simple as listening to music while riding a goddamned chocobo. The game was ill-perfomed and poorly planned.

FFXIII was shit because it regressed to ATB which was a shitty way to make turn-based feel more involved when hardware limitations prevented more complex turn-based systems like FFX's.

I especially noticed it when I went back to replay it and actually knew how to level up in a non-retarded fashion. I steamrolled the whole game.

If you like collecting monsters play SMT
If you like crafting play Atelier

FF is dead, there are options.

I may think that LRXIII has the best combat system in the franchise and that it could be implemented for multiple characters replacing the Schemata, but it would nevertheless limit the actions a single person could take to four, which would be unfortunate, so I'm giving my vote to X-2.

XIII-1 was solved by buff/debuff > Relentless Assault/2xTri-Disaster until Stagger > Tri-Disaster until a third of the Stagger bar is gone > Cerberus + Heal, when needed. Rince and repeat for every battle. Boring. Except Wladislaus, who was the only mob with charisma, saying "Fuck this system! I'm just going to hit you really hard!"

XIII-2 by turning the battles fast and trivial is an improvement for me, especially with the quality of life improvements. But I can understand someone, if they actually love the combat for some reason, preferring XIII-1.

And in every non-combat aspect it was superior.

XV combat could have been great if they added variety to it. Your skill kit seems so limited compared to really any other ARPG
