Why are game cases still rectangular?
They were shaped to mimick VCR cassettes when people store them, but people don't use them anymore.
If they were circular it would save money and storage space.
Why don't companies make the switch?

to stand up strait on shelves.
jackass.

>put video game collection on shelf
>everything just rolls off
And store them where? In a cd rack like some fucking coma patient waking up from the nineties?

okay fine so let's say not circular but it's still using so much space.
Why not make it square?
Look at all that space at the top that does nothing. Why not make it square like music cd cases?

yeah they could be smaller. Like alot of the blu ray cases, they're not wasting all that plastic your worried about. god damn hippy.

But Nintendo made the Switch and everyone on /v/ hates them for it.

Because movie posters are rectangular.

Cases and box art should be landscape rather than portrait. It's superior.

There's a reason gooks made square watermelons, they are easier to store. With video games many of them are in discs, and most containers are square. Even if all mediums switched to circular containers it would mean the containers themselves would have more wasted space and depending on the size it would require more containers. Not to mention labels on circular containers, depending on the length of the title, can be difficult to read depending on their position. With a rectangular box you can put it back label-side and know what it is, even if it's upside down for god knows what reason. Cubic storage spaces in general are more efficient for general use, games included. To make circular storage spaces a thing it would take a lot of coordination or some dumbass making their circle-shelves a big enough meme that everyone else bandwagons on the fad. Not likely to happen, as we've had rectangular storage spaces for thousands of years.
TL;DR If it ain't broke don't fix it.
>not playing ur viddy games on cassettes
